Talia C. Teneyuque, 32, is facing felony charges for allegedly using food stamps to buy baking ingredients and selling homemade goods on Facebook. If convicted, she could face up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.⁠

Teneyuque was arrested on Aug. 4 and released the same day after posting bond. At her arraignment on Aug. 13, she was granted a $50,000 personal recognizance bond. On Sept. 3, her attorney requested a delay due to scheduling conflicts, and Judge Terry L. Clark agreed to postpone the case.

Her arrest has sparked fierce debate online: is this fraud, or a desperation?

Priscilla Williams-Till, a relative of Emmett Till, is running for U.S. Senate in Mississippi, challenging Republican Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith.

She announced her run on Aug. 28 at the state Capitol, citing Hyde-Smith’s leadership on race and her 2018 “public hanging” remark as reasons for entering the race.

Emmett Till’s killing in 1955 remains one of the most infamous acts of racial violence in American history. Williams-Till says her campaign is about turning that history into leadership: “We will change the hate that’s come out of Mississippi.”
