This is an important message for anyone who has a claim against the Boy Scouts, including current and former Boy Scouts. It’s time to vote on the Plan to reorganize the Boy Scouts, so it can pay claims. Money for sexual abuse claims will be paid out of a settlement trust established by the Plan. You must vote on the Plan by December 14, 2021, or object to it by January 7, 2022. Hearing is on January 24, 2022. The Plan proposes releases in favor of BSA and certain third parties, including the Local Councils, Contributing and Participating Chartered Organizations (which sponsored a troop or pack), and Settling Insurance Companies. If the Plan is approved, all current and future holders of sexual abuse claims related to Scouting can request and receive money only from the settlement trust. You should read the Plan and Disclosure Statement carefully for details about how the Plan, if approved, will affect your rights.
