Can we talk lower thirds? L3s? Chyrons? Whatever you want to call them, they are super important. If you don’t know what they are, they are the little graphic at the bottom left or right of the screen that tells you the name, title and company of the person speaking. Often times they get overlooked or can be pretty basic, but here at Metamer it’s paramount that lower thirds are a part of the overall motion branding package for each project. It’s also essential that they are placed within the safety margins, but we can get into that another time. Here are a few examples of branded lower thirds we’ve developed for projects over the years.

This year we have so much to be grateful for! We’ve had the privilege of working with some amazing clients on some fun and engaging projects. We worked with tremendously talented people from all over the country. And we’re always grateful to be able to use our favorite art form as a tool to help make real change. Movie night? We have a recommendation!
Flow became a bit of a sensation when it came out in 2024 — the film is about a mysterious, recently post-human world where animals struggle to survive a catastrophic flood and was conceived of, designed, and animated by a very small team as a side project using mostly free software. Not exactly the origin story of your typical Oscar-winner. It also features exactly zero dialogue…unless you count animal noises as dialog. Even without words, or a Hollywood budget, flow had me absolutely rapt for the full runtime owing to a level of truth, relatability, and sense of mystery that are rarely achieved in film. Perhaps never so well without relying on human actors for sight or sound.

We haven’t done one of these in a while! This week’s movie recommendation is from Rachael and her pick is... Pacific Rim!

I was watching Kaiju No. 8 recently and was reminded of Pacific Rim, which has always been one on my favorites, but I never realized it was a Guillermo Del Toro film. No wonder why I like it so much. I guess I should have know since it is a monster movie and that’s his M.O., but I think it’s probably the biggest monster movie he’s ever done. This film is of course jam packed with action, but it also has heart and humor. It’s also just really cool! I love mech suits and monsters and watching them fight is just really fun!

One crucial step in our pre-production process is our Creative Brief. This document is a tool we use to explore collective alignment with our clients on project Art & Creative. It includes a host of details such as narrative arc, potential CTAs, music options, color and font selections, design concepts, and so much more. One thing we always include are style frames. These are snapshots of what our final product could potentially look like. For our project with , these were some of the style frames presented and they ended up looking pretty similar to the final product... which is the goal!
