BIG BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR DR. SEUSS AT FRIENDSHIP CHAMBERLAIN ELEMENTARY

March 2, 2020...Friendship Chamberlain Elementary kicked off a week of book parties to celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday for all of our preK-1st grade scholars at Friendship Public Charter School. Over 1200 students got a brand new book to take home and had lots of fun reading their new books with teachers, parents, volunteers from the community, high school and middle school students. Over the next two weeks scholars will make video book reviews about their favorite books for their YouTube channel. All of this was made possible thanks to Friendship News Network and a grant from the DC Commission on the Arts.

It was a matchup that the city couldn’t wait to see. Friendship Collegiate had been down this road before, but Dunbar worked really hard this season to get to new heights. With Friendship having an overall 9-3 season and Dunbar with 10-2, it was easy to wonder who the champion would be.

FNN Story of the Day: Blow Pierce 5th grader makes a case for rap music in education.

Although some are concerned with the influence of rap because of the profanity, slang, and violence it uses and speaks of, rap music is relatable music that many enjoy because it is catchy and heartfelt.

News Flash: Skipping Grades is Really Not That Bad

FNN Story of the Day: Tech Prep Early College student, R’Naisia Murphy skipped two grades. Read her story to find out how things worked out.

Many parents tell me that the decision to skip their child is a big one. I can see why— students who skip are forced to be with older kids, be influenced by them, developing the fear they’ll be put behind because of the material they hadn’t been able to learn and many other reasons.
