6/100 Conversations 🌍

Manisha moved from Hyderabad to Minnesota with her family, excited to experience a completely new life in the US.

But like most expats, the reality was very different from what social media shows.

Extreme winters.
Starting over from zero.
Learning how to do everything independently.
Missing family.
Adjusting to a culture where even meeting friends needs planning.

And yet, somewhere between the struggle and the adjustment, she found growth too.

In this conversation, she talks about the emotional side of moving abroad, the little things Indians miss the most, learning independence in a new country, and what β€œhome” really means after you move away from it.

One thing she said really stayed with us:
β€œHome is where I can be around my people and still completely be myself.”

Some people wait until they have power to make a difference.
Komal Kaur started in high school.
After growing up around the real struggles immigrant families face β€” language barriers, paperwork, legal confusion, and silence β€” she created Eye of An Immigrant, a Kansas City nonprofit that elevates immigrant voices, shares stories, connects families with resources, and helps fund pathways to citizenship.
Her story is a reminder:
You don’t have to be famous to be a SuperExpat.
Sometimes, you just have to care enough to start.
Today’s SuperExpat #8: Komal Kaur
