Manisha moved from Hyderabad to Minnesota with her family, excited to experience a completely new life in the US.
But like most expats, the reality was very different from what social media shows.
Extreme winters.
Starting over from zero.
Learning how to do everything independently.
Missing family.
Adjusting to a culture where even meeting friends needs planning.
And yet, somewhere between the struggle and the adjustment, she found growth too.
In this conversation, she talks about the emotional side of moving abroad, the little things Indians miss the most, learning independence in a new country, and what βhomeβ really means after you move away from it.
One thing she said really stayed with us:
βHome is where I can be around my people and still completely be myself.β
