The USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76) serves as the former flagship of Carrier Strike Group 5 (CSG-5). While the ship spent nearly a decade leading this strike group as the centerpiece of the U.S. Navy’s forward-deployed forces in Yokosuka, Japan, the USS Ronald Reagan is no longer paired with CSG-5.
In mid-2024, the Ronald Reagan officially conducted a "hull swap" with the USS George Washington (CVN-73), which assumed the role of flagship for CSG-5 and Task Force 70 in Japan.
On September 3, 2026, the Ronald Reagan officially departed the shipyard and went underway to begin post-maintenance sea trials. It is undergoing rigorous crew certifications and training ahead of its scheduled return to full fleet deployment operational cycles in spring 2027.
