This was inspired by a sermon I heard the other day, and it’s been sitting with me ever since. A lot of us would say without hesitation, “I’d die for my family.”

But what about dying to yourself in the ordinary moments? Choosing sacrifice over comfort. Presence over distraction. Repentance over pride.

Maybe the most heroic thing you can do for your family isn’t dying for them someday.

Maybe it’s choosing to live for Christ in front of them today.

Getting to sit down with my 101 year old great-grandfather and hear him talk about Jesus reminds me that the gospel never becomes ordinary. Decades of life, trials, victories, and memories haven’t made him move past the wonder of what Christ has done.

I’m incredibly thankful for these moments. They’re a gift I don’t take for granted, and a reminder of the legacy that a life centered on Jesus can leave behind.

Praying with your spouse isn’t always easy.

If I’m honest, it’s something that’s still hard for me to do consistently. But I’ve learned that discomfort isn’t a reason to avoid it. It’s an invitation to depend on Christ.

Just start. Tonight when you get in bed with your wife.

It doesn’t have to be long or eloquent. A few honest words before the Lord, day after day, can shape a marriage more than you realize. Jesus is worth building your marriage around.

What would you ask someone who’s spent over 100 years walking through life with Jesus?

I had the privilege of sitting down with my 101-year-old great-grandfather to talk about faith, World War II, marriage, loss, legacy, and heaven.

After listening to his story, one thing became unmistakably clear:

A life surrendered to Christ is never wasted.
His greatest accomplishment wasn’t his career, surviving a world war, or living more than a century. It was seeing generations of his family come to know and follow Jesus.

In a world obsessed with building a name for ourselves, he reminded me that the greatest legacy we can leave is a faithful one.

I hope this conversation encourages you as much as it encouraged me.
