THE TWO PEOPLE I TRUSTED
Episode 8 β€” The Money Behind the Lies

I couldn't stop thinking about the photograph.
Daniel and Vanessa were standing together, smiling as though they had nothing to hide.
But the date on the picture was what frightened me.
It was taken two months before Daniel claimed their affair had started.

That meant they had been lying.
But the message on the back of the photograph troubled me even more.
β€œAsk Vanessa where she got the money.”
What money?
And why was someone sending me evidence?
The next morning, I decided to investigate quietly.
I didn't want another confrontation based on assumptions.

I needed facts.
I started by checking some old financial records.
Daniel and I had a joint savings account that we rarely touched.
I noticed several withdrawals I didn't recognize.
One was particularly large.
I called the bank.
"Can you tell me when this withdrawal was made?"
The customer service representative gave me the date.
My heart stopped.
It was the same week Vanessa had suddenly told me she was having financial problems.
I remembered that week clearly.
She had called me crying.
"Amara, I'm in trouble. I don't know where I'll get the money."

I had wanted to help her, but Daniel had told me we couldn't afford it.
Now I was beginning to wonder.
I checked another record.
Another withdrawal.
Same period.
Another large amount.
My hands began shaking.
Someone had been taking money from our account.
And I had never known.
That afternoon, I called Daniel.
"Did you withdraw money from our savings?"
There was silence.
"Why are you asking?"
"Just answer me."
"Yes."
"How much?"
He hesitated.
"I don't remember."

"You don't remember taking thousands from our joint account?"
"Amara, I was going to replace it."
My heart sank.
"What did you use it for?"
He didn't answer.
"Was it for Vanessa?"
Silence.
I closed my eyes.
"Daniel..."
"Yes."
I felt something inside me break again.
"Why?"
"She needed help."
I laughed bitterly.
"She needed help, so you stole from our marriage?"
"I wasn't stealing."
"You took money without telling me!"
He became quiet.

I ended the call.
But I wasn't finished.
I went to Vanessa's house.
She opened the door and froze when she saw me.
"Amara..."
I held up the photograph.
"When was this taken?"
She stared at it.
Her face went pale.
"Where did you get that?"
"Answer me."
She looked away.
"I don't remember."
"You don't remember?"
I stepped closer.
"This picture was taken two months before you admitted the affair began."
She said nothing.

"And there's something else."
I showed her the bank statement.
"Did Daniel give you money?"
She started crying.
"Amara, please."
"Did he?"
She nodded.
"Yes."
My chest tightened.
"How much?"
She whispered an amount.
It was almost everything we had saved for a major family project.
I couldn't believe it.
"What did you spend it on?"
She covered her face.
"I had debts."

"So Daniel paid your debts with our money?"
"He said he would help me."
I shook my head.
"And you accepted?"
She cried harder.
"I was desperate."
I stared at her.
"You weren't desperate when you entered my marriage."
She looked at me.
For the first time, I saw something different in her eyes.
Not guilt.
Fear.
"Amara, there's something you don't understand."
"What?"
She hesitated.
"The money wasn't the reason Daniel came to me."
I frowned.
"Then what was?"

She looked around nervously.
"Someone was threatening him."
My heart stopped.
"Who?"
"I don't know."
"Vanessa, stop lying to me!"
She began shaking.
"I'm not lying."
"Then tell me everything."
She took a deep breath.
"A few months ago, Daniel received some documents."
"What documents?"
"I don't know exactly. But after he saw them, he became terrified."
I stared at her.
"Terrified of what?"
She looked directly into my eyes.
"Of losing everything."
My heart started pounding.
"What did the documents say?"
Vanessa opened her mouth.
But before she could answer, someone knocked loudly on the door.
We both turned.

A man stood outside.
He looked at me.
Then at Vanessa.
Then he said:
"You shouldn't have come here, Amara."
My blood ran cold.
"Who are you?"
He didn't answer.
Instead, he held out an envelope.
"Your husband has been hiding the truth from you."
I took the envelope with trembling hands.
"What is this?"
He looked at me seriously.
"Proof."
Then he walked away.
I opened the envelope.
Inside was a document bearing my name.
I stared at it in disbelief.
Whatever Daniel had discovered about my past...

this document was connected to it.
And suddenly, I realized the betrayal wasn't only about Daniel and Vanessa.
There was something much bigger hiding underneath everything.
Something that could change my entire life

THE TWO PEOPLE I TRUSTED
Episode 7 β€” The Secret From My Past

Vanessa's final words kept echoing in my head.
β€œThere is a secret from your past that Daniel recently discovered.”
I barely slept that night.
What could Daniel have discovered?
I had never hidden anything serious from him.
At least, that was what I believed.
The following morning, I called Daniel.
He didn't answer.

I called again.
Still nothing.
I sent him a message.
β€œWe need to talk. I need to know what you discovered about me.”
He read the message.
But he didn't reply.
That silence frightened me more than anything.
By afternoon, I received a message from an unknown number.
β€œIf you want the truth, come to the old cafΓ© where you and Daniel first met. Come alone.”
I stared at the message.
I knew immediately who had sent it.
Daniel.
I didn't tell my sister.
I didn't tell anyone.
I went.
Daniel was already sitting at a table when I arrived.
He looked different.

Not angry.
Not guilty.
Just tired.
I sat opposite him.
"What did you discover about me?"
He stared at me for a long time.
"Before I answer that, I want you to answer one question."
"What?"
"Did you ever have a child before we got married?"
My heart stopped.
I stared at him.
"What kind of question is that?"
"Answer me."
I looked away.
There was a part of my past I had buried so deeply that I hadn't spoken about it in years.
Before Daniel, there had been someone.
His name was Michael.
We had been young.
We loved each other.
And I became pregnant.

But the relationship ended before the baby was born.
I had lost the pregnancy shortly afterward.
It was the most painful period of my life.
I never told Daniel because I was ashamed of that chapter.
Not because I had done anything wrong.
I simply couldn't bear to reopen the wound.
I looked back at Daniel.
"Yes."
His eyes hardened.
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"Because I lost the baby. It happened before I met you. I thought it was something painful from my past that I didn't have to relive."
He shook his head.
"You should have told me."
Tears filled my eyes.
"Maybe I should have. But does that justify what you did with Vanessa?"
He looked away.

"No."
"Then why did you use my past as an excuse?"
He remained silent.
I continued.
"Who told you about Michael?"
Daniel didn't answer.
I already knew.
"Vanessa?"
He nodded.
My heart sank.
"How did she know?"
Daniel looked at me.
"You told her."
I froze.
Of course.
Years ago, I had told Vanessa everything.
Every secret.
Every painful memory.
Every wound.
And now she had used my own past against me.
I whispered,
"She promised me she would never tell anyone."
Daniel sighed.
"She told me you were still communicating with Michael."
My eyes widened.
"That's a lie!"
"I know that now."
"Then why did you believe her?"
He lowered his head.
"Because I was already emotionally involved with her."

I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
Vanessa had not only stolen my husband's trust.
She had taken something painful from my past and twisted it into a weapon.
"Did you ever ask me?" I asked.
Daniel shook his head.
"No."
"Why?"
"I was afraid of what you'd say."
I laughed through my tears.
"So instead of asking your wife, you believed my best friend?"
He had no answer.
I stood up.
"You didn't betray me because of my past, Daniel."

He looked at me.
"You betrayed me because you chose to."
I walked away.
But before I reached the door, Daniel called my name.
"Amara!"
I stopped.
"There is something else."
I slowly turned around.
His face had changed.
"What?"
He swallowed.
"Vanessa didn't tell me that story because she wanted to protect me."
I frowned.
"Then why?"

He looked directly into my eyes.
"She wanted me to hate you."
My heart sank.
"Why would she want that?"
Daniel's voice became quiet.
"Because she wanted me to leave you."
Everything suddenly became clear.
Vanessa hadn't simply fallen in love with my husband.
She had been trying to destroy our marriage.
She had studied my weaknesses.
She knew my secrets.
She knew what would hurt me.
And she used them carefully.
I left the cafΓ© with tears streaming down my face.
For the first time, I wasn't only heartbroken.
I was angry.
Not the kind of anger that makes you scream.
The kind that makes you finally open your eyes.
When I reached my sister's house, there was a package waiting for me.
No name.
No address.
Just my name written on the envelope.
I opened it.

Inside was a photograph.
My hands began shaking.
It was a picture of Daniel and Vanessa together.
But that wasn't what shocked me.
Written on the back were six words:
β€œAsk Vanessa where she got the money.”
I stared at the photograph.
Money?
What did Vanessa's finances have to do with my marriage?
Then I noticed something else.
The photograph had been taken months before Daniel admitted their affair began.
My heart began pounding.
That meant one thing.

Daniel and Vanessa had been lying about when their relationship started.
And if they had lied about that...
What else had they been lying about?

THE TWO PEOPLE I TRUSTED
Episode 6 β€” The Secret Behind the Pregnancy

I walked for almost an hour that night without knowing where I was going.
The streets were busy, but I felt completely alone.
People passed me.
Cars moved around me.
Lights flashed everywhere.
Yet all I could hear was Daniel's voice.
β€œVanessa is pregnant.”
I placed my hand over my mouth to stop myself from crying.

How could this be happening to me?
The woman I called my best friend was carrying my husband's child.
I finally reached my sister's house.
The moment she opened the door and saw my face, she knew something was wrong.
"Amara, what happened?"
I couldn't answer.
I simply walked inside and collapsed onto the sofa.
She sat beside me.
"Talk to me."
I looked at her through my tears.
"Daniel betrayed me."
Her eyes widened.

"What do you mean?"
I told her everything.
The affair.
The lies.
Vanessa's confession.
The pregnancy.
My sister covered her mouth in shock.
"Vanessa?"
I nodded.
"My best friend."
She hugged me tightly.
That night, I cried until I fell asleep.
But the following morning, I woke up with one thought in my mind.
I needed the whole truth.
I couldn't continue living with pieces of information.

I called Daniel.
"We need to talk."
There was silence.
*"Where are you?" he asked.
"At my sister's."
"Can I come?"
"Yes."
Two hours later, Daniel arrived.
He looked exhausted.
He sat opposite me.
For several minutes, neither of us spoke.
Then I asked,
"How long have you known Vanessa was pregnant?"
He looked down.
"About three weeks."
My heart sank.
"Three weeks?"
"Yes."
"And you didn't tell me?"

"I was afraid."
I laughed bitterly.
"Afraid of what? Losing me?"
He said nothing.
I stared at him.
"Daniel, I need you to answer one question honestly."
He nodded.
"Is the baby yours?"
He closed his eyes.
Then he whispered,
"Yes."
My heart shattered all over again.
I turned my face away.
I didn't want him to see me cry.
After a moment, I asked,
"Was Vanessa the only woman?"
Daniel looked at me.
"What?"
"During those six months. Was it only her?"
His silence terrified me.
"Daniel..."
He finally spoke.

"There was someone else before Vanessa."
I felt dizzy.
"Someone else?"
He nodded.
"It didn't last long."
I stared at him.
"How many women have there been?"
"Amara, pleaseβ€”"
"How many?"
He couldn't answer.
I stood up.
"All these years, I thought I was married to a man who made mistakes. Now I'm realizing I was married to a man who kept secrets."

Daniel began crying.
"I am sorry."
"Sorry doesn't explain why."
He wiped his face.
"There is something you don't know."
I looked at him.
"What now?"
He hesitated.
"Vanessa didn't become pregnant by accident."
My heart began racing.
"What are you saying?"
"She wanted to have my child."
I stared at him in disbelief.
"And you agreed?"
He looked down.
"Yes."
I felt as though the room had disappeared around me.

This wasn't simply an affair anymore.
They had made plans.
Plans that included a future together.
A future that did not include me.
I whispered,
"Were you planning to marry her?"
Daniel didn't answer.
That was enough.
I sat back down.
Tears rolled down my cheeks.
"You were going to replace me."
"No..."
"Then what were you going to do?"
He remained silent.
I looked at him one last time.
"Go."
"Amaraβ€”"
"Please go."
He stood slowly.

Before leaving, he turned around.
"I still love you."
I looked at him with tears in my eyes.
"You may love me, Daniel, but you didn't protect my heart."
He left.
I thought that was the end.
But that evening, Vanessa called me.
I almost refused to answer.
But something told me I needed to hear what she had to say.
"Hello?"
Her voice was trembling.
"Amara..."
"What do you want?"

"I need to tell you the truth."
I closed my eyes.
"I already know enough."
"No," she whispered.
"You don't."
My heart began pounding.
"What don't I know?"
There was a long silence.
Then she said,
"Daniel didn't choose me because he stopped loving you."
I frowned.
"Then why?"
Her voice broke.
"Because he believed you were hiding something from him too."
I froze.
"What are you talking about?"
"Amara... Daniel has been investigating something about you."
My blood ran cold.
"What?"

Vanessa took a shaky breath.
"Something from before your marriage."
I couldn't speak.
Then she whispered the words that changed everything:
"There is a secret from your past that Daniel recently discovered."
The call ended.
I sat there staring at my phone.
For the first time, I wondered...
What had Daniel discovered about me?
And why had Vanessa known about it?

THE TWO PEOPLE I TRUSTED
Episode 5 β€” The Reason He Chose Her

I stood in the middle of my living room, staring at Daniel as though I had never seen him before.
Vanessa was still crying on the sofa.
But I had no tears left.
I had cried enough.
Six months.

For six months, my husband had been secretly involved with my best friend.
And now he was telling me there was a reason.
I folded my arms across my chest.
"What reason could possibly justify this?"
Daniel finally looked at me.
"Amara, I didn't plan for any of this to happen."
I laughed bitterly.
"But it happened for six months."
He lowered his head.
"I know."

"Did you love her?"
He remained silent.
My voice became louder.
"I asked you if you loved her!"
"Yes."
That single word destroyed whatever hope I had left.
I turned away from him.
"So all those times you told me I was your everything..."
I swallowed hard.
"Were you lying?"
"No."
I turned back.
"Then how could you love two women at the same time?"
Daniel had no answer.
Vanessa suddenly stood up.
"Amara, pleaseβ€”"
I raised my hand.
"Don't."
She stopped.
"I don't want to hear anything from you right now."

I looked at Daniel.
"You said there was a reason. Tell me."
He took a deep breath.
"I felt neglected."
I froze.
"Neglected?"
"Yes."
I stared at him in disbelief.
"By me?"
He nodded.
"You became so busy with everything. The house, your work, your family... I felt like I wasn't important anymore."
I shook my head.
"Daniel, you could have told me."
"I tried."
"No, you didn't!"
My voice broke.

"Do you know how many times I asked you if something was wrong? Do you know how many nights I stayed awake asking you what was bothering you?"
He looked down.
"I know."
"Then why didn't you talk to me?"

He didn't answer.
I wiped my tears.
"Instead, you went to my best friend."
Vanessa began crying again.
"It wasn't supposed to happen like this."
I looked at her.
"Then how was it supposed to happen?"
She couldn't answer.
I walked toward the bedroom.
Then I stopped.
"When did it begin?"
Daniel looked confused.
"What?"
"The first time."
He hesitated.
"The night you told me you were meeting a client."

My heart sank.
The night I had waited for him until midnight.
The night I had believed his lie.
"You were with her?"
He nodded.
I closed my eyes.
Suddenly, every strange moment began replaying in my mind.
The hidden phone.
The late nights.
The secret smiles.
The messages.
The excuses.

They had all been connected.
I walked into our bedroom and opened the wardrobe.
I pulled out a suitcase.
Daniel followed me.
"What are you doing?"
"I'm leaving."
"Amara, please don't."
I continued packing.
"Where will you go?"
"Somewhere I can breathe."
He grabbed my hand.
"Please. We can fix this."
I pulled my hand away.
"You had six months to fix it."
He stared at me.
"I made a mistake."
I looked into his eyes.
"A mistake happens once."
My voice trembled.

"You made a choice every single day for six months."
He became silent.
I packed a few clothes and walked toward the door.
Vanessa stood there crying.
"Amara, please forgive me."
I stopped.
For a moment, I looked at the woman who had once been my closest friend.
I remembered our childhood.
Our laughter.
Our secrets.
All the times I had defended her.
All the times I had called her my sister.
Then I whispered,
"I don't know if I can ever forgive you."

She covered her face.
I walked past her.
But before I could leave, Daniel said something that stopped me.
"Amara... Vanessa is pregnant."
I froze.
Slowly, I turned around.
My eyes moved from Daniel to Vanessa.
Vanessa was crying.
My hands began shaking.
"What did you just say?"

Daniel swallowed.
"She's pregnant."
The room became silent.
I looked at Vanessa's stomach.
Then at Daniel.
"Is the baby yours?"
Neither of them answered.
And once again...
their silence gave me the answer.
My heart broke in a way I didn't know was possible.
I had lost my husband.
I had lost my best friend.
And now there was an innocent child involved.
I stepped outside with tears streaming down my face.

But as I walked away, I didn't know that the pregnancy was only the beginning.
Because there was still one devastating secret Daniel and Vanessa had not told me.
A secret that would make the betrayal far more painful than I could ever imagine.

THE TWO PEOPLE I TRUSTED
Episode 4 β€” The Truth I Wasn’t Ready For

I barely slept that night.
Daniel was lying beside me, pretending to be asleep, but I knew he wasn't.
Neither of us spoke.

The message I had seen kept replaying in my mind.
β€œWe can't keep doing this. She is starting to suspect something.”
I wanted to believe there was another explanation.

I wanted Daniel to wake up, hold me, and tell me that everything was a misunderstanding.
But morning came, and nothing changed.
Daniel got ready for work without saying much.
As he reached the door, I finally stopped him.
"Daniel."
He turned around.
"Yes?"
"Are you hiding something from me?"
He stared at me.

For several seconds, neither of us spoke.
Then he sighed.
"Amara, why are you doing this?"
"Doing what?"
"Questioning everything I do."
My eyes filled with tears.
"Because you're no longer the man I know."
He looked away.
"I'm tired. We'll talk when I get back."
Then he walked out.

I stood at the door watching him leave.
Something inside me told me that he wasn't coming home with the same story.
And I was right.
That afternoon, Vanessa called.
"Amara, can I come over?"
Her voice sounded nervous.
"Yes."
She arrived about thirty minutes later.
The moment she entered, I knew she was afraid.

She sat down quietly.
I offered her water.
She didn't drink it.
Instead, she looked at me and said,
"You asked me yesterday if I would ever betray you."
I nodded.
"Yes."
She took a deep breath.
"I want you to know that I love you."
My heart started racing.
"Why are you telling me this?"
She looked down.
"Because sometimes people make mistakes."
I stood up.
"What kind of mistake?"

She immediately shook her head.
"Nothing. Forget I said that."
"No, Vanessa."
My voice trembled.
"You came into my house to tell me something. Tell me."
She stood up.
"I can't."
"Why?"
"Because it will destroy you."
Those words felt like a knife.
I stared at her.

"What will destroy me?"
She started crying.
I had never seen Vanessa cry like that before.
"I'm sorry," she whispered.
"Sorry for what?"
She covered her face.
"Please forgive me."
My legs suddenly felt weak.
I sat down.

"Vanessa... what did you do?"
She couldn't answer.
Then her phone rang.
She looked at the screen.
Her face changed.
I knew that number.
It was the same number that had sent the message to Daniel.
I reached for her phone.
She pulled it away.
"Don't!"
I froze.
"Why?"

She shook her head.
"Please, Amara. Don't make me do this."
"Do what?"
She began crying harder.
Then she said something I will never forget.
"It started before you knew anything."
My heart stopped.
"What started?"
She looked directly into my eyes.
"Me and Daniel."

The room went completely silent.
I couldn't breathe.
I couldn't speak.
I couldn't even cry.
I simply stared at her.
"What do you mean, you and Daniel?"
She wiped her tears.
"I'm sorry."
I laughed.
It wasn't a happy laugh.

It was the kind of laugh that comes when your heart is too shocked to understand what it's hearing.
"You and my husband?"
She nodded slowly.
I stood up.
"How long?"
She looked away.
"How long, Vanessa?"
"Almost six months."
My knees gave way.

I collapsed onto the chair.
Six months.
Six months of hugs.
Six months of trusting her.
Six months of sleeping beside Daniel.
Six months of believing I was safe.
And all that time, the two people closest to me had been living a secret life behind my back.
I looked at Vanessa.
"Did you ever feel guilty?"
She began sobbing.
"Every day."
"Then why didn't you stop?"
She had no answer.
I wiped my tears.
"Does Daniel love you?"

She remained silent.
That silence was enough.
I whispered,
"And you love him?"
She nodded.
Something inside me died.
Not because I had lost Daniel.
But because I realized that the woman I called my sister had been secretly competing for the man I called my husband.
Then Vanessa said something that made everything even worse.

"Amara... there's something else you don't know."
I looked at her.
"What?"
She hesitated.
"Daniel didn't start this because of me."
My heart began pounding.
"What are you saying?"
She looked terrified.
"There was a reason he came to me."
"What reason?"
Before she could answer, the front door opened.
Daniel walked in.
He stopped when he saw us.

His eyes moved from me to Vanessa.
Nobody spoke.
I stood slowly.
"You knew she was coming here?" I asked.
Daniel said nothing.
"Answer me!"
He lowered his head.
And then Vanessa whispered:
"He was planning to leave you."
I stared at Daniel.

The man I had loved for years.
The man I had sacrificed for.
The man I had defended.
The man I had trusted with my entire heart.
He couldn't even look me in the eyes.
And that was when I understood...
The betrayal was much bigger than I had imagined.

THE TWO PEOPLE I TRUSTED
Episode 3 β€” The Secret Between Them

For the next few days, I tried to forget everything I had noticed.
I told myself that Daniel was simply busy.
I told myself Vanessa had nothing to hide.
Most importantly, I told myself that I was allowing fear to create problems where none existed.

But then something happened that made it impossible to keep pretending.
It was a Tuesday evening.
Daniel had just returned from work when his phone rang.
He looked at the screen.
His entire expression changed.
He didn't answer.
Instead, he stood up and walked toward the balcony.

I watched him from the kitchen.
A few seconds later, he answered.
"Hello?"
I couldn't hear the person on the other end.
But I saw Daniel's face.
He looked nervous.
"I told you not to call me when I'm at home," he whispered.
My heart sank.
Who was he talking to?
I didn't want to spy on him.
I didn't want to become that kind of wife.
So I returned to the kitchen and continued cooking.

A few minutes later, Daniel came inside.
"Who was that?" I asked casually.
He looked at me.
"Nobody."
I smiled faintly.
"Nobody has a phone number?"
He laughed.
"It was just a work colleague."
"A colleague you told not to call you at home?"
Silence.
Daniel stared at me.
Then he smiled.
"You heard that?"
"Yes."
He walked toward me and wrapped his arms around my waist.
"Amara, please. It's work. Don't worry about things that don't matter."
I looked into his eyes.
"Then why can't you just tell me who it was?"
His smile disappeared.
"Because not everything needs an explanation."
Those words hurt more than I expected.
I gently removed his hands from my waist.
"Okay."

That night, Daniel went to bed early.
I stayed awake beside him, staring at the ceiling.
I had never felt so alone while lying next to my husband.
The following afternoon, Vanessa came to visit.
I decided not to mention Daniel's phone call.
Instead, I watched her.
She seemed unusually happy.
She kept checking her phone and smiling.
At one point, she received a message and immediately stepped outside.
Something inside me told me to follow her.
I fought the urge.

But after a few minutes, I walked toward the window.
I could see her standing near the gate.
She was talking to someone on the phone.
Then I heard her say something that made my blood run cold.
"He promised me he would tell her soon."
I froze.
He?
Who was she talking about?
And who was her?
I stepped away from the window before she could see me.

When Vanessa came back inside, I pretended nothing had happened.
She sat beside me.
"You look tired," she said.
"I'm fine."
She touched my hand.
"Are you sure?"
I looked at her.
For a moment, I wanted to ask her everything.
I wanted to say:
Who is he?
What is Daniel supposed to tell me?
But I couldn't.
Fear held my tongue.
Instead, I asked,
"Vanessa, would you ever betray me?"
Her smile disappeared.
"Why would you ask me that?"
"Just answer me."

She stared at me for several seconds.
Then she held my hands.
"Amara, you are my sister. I could never do anything to hurt you."
My eyes filled with tears.
I believed her.
Or perhaps I simply wanted to believe her.
She hugged me.
"You can trust me."
I closed my eyes.
"I do."
That evening, Vanessa left.

About an hour later, Daniel's phone rang while he was showering.
I glanced at the screen.
There was no name.
Just a number.
I didn't touch the phone.
Then a message appeared.
"We can't keep doing this. She is starting to suspect something."
My entire body went cold.
I stared at the screen.
My hands began trembling.
She.
That was me.
There was no doubt.
Someone was talking about me.
Someone knew I was beginning to suspect something.

And suddenly, Vanessa's strange behavior made sense.
Daniel's hidden phone made sense.
The secret calls made sense.
The lies...
Everything began connecting.
Daniel came out of the bathroom.
He stopped when he saw me standing beside his phone.
His face turned pale.
I slowly looked at him.
"Daniel..."
He said nothing.
I pointed at the phone.
"Who is this?"
He swallowed.

"Amara..."
"Who is this?" I repeated.
He reached for the phone.
I stepped back.
"Don't touch it."
His eyes filled with panic.
"It's not what you think."
I laughed bitterly.
"Then tell me what it is."
He couldn't.
And that silence was louder than any confession.
I stared at my husband for what felt like an eternity.
Then I asked the question that would change everything:

"Is Vanessa involved in this?"
Daniel's face told me everything.
He didn't say yes.
He didn't say no.
He simply looked away.
And in that moment, my heart shattered.
Because sometimes, the truth doesn't need to be spoken.
Sometimes...
the silence is the answer.

THE TWO PEOPLE I TRUSTED
Episode 2 β€” The First Lie

The first time I truly felt something was wrong, I tried to convince myself that I was imagining things.
I had always been a woman who believed in her husband.
If Daniel came home late, I listened to his explanation.
If he said he was busy, I believed him.
If his phone rang and he walked away to answer it, I never followed him.
That was the kind of wife I was.
I didn't want to be suspicious.
I didn't want to turn my marriage into a prison where every movement had to be explained.
I believed that when two people loved each other, trust was supposed to come naturally.
But sometimes, trust can make you blind to what is happening right in front of you.
One Thursday evening, Daniel told me he was going to meet a client.

"It won't take long," he said while putting on his shoes.
I looked at the clock.
"You're going out this late?"
"The client is only available tonight."
I nodded.
"Okay. Be careful."
He kissed my forehead.
"I love you."
"I love you too."
Then he left.
I continued preparing dinner.
An hour passed.
Then two.
Then three.
By 10:30 p.m., Daniel still wasn't home.
I called him.
No answer.
I called again.
Still nothing.
My heart began beating faster.
I tried to remain calm.
"Maybe he's driving."
I waited another twenty minutes before my phone finally rang.
It was Daniel.
"Hello?"
"Amara, I'm sorry. The meeting took longer than expected."
I sighed with relief.
"Are you coming home now?"
There was a brief silence.
"Yes. I'm on my way."
"Okay."
I ended the call.

Ten minutes later, another message came.
"Don't wait for me. Eat and sleep. I'm tired."
I stared at the message for several seconds.
Something about it felt strange.
Daniel had never spoken to me that way before.
Still, I pushed the feeling aside.
I ate alone.
Then I went to bed.
He came home around midnight.
I pretended to be asleep.
I heard him quietly enter the room.
He took off his clothes, placed his phone on the table and went into the bathroom.
I opened my eyes.
For a moment, I looked at his phone.
Then I looked away.
No.

I wasn't going to become a suspicious wife.
I trusted him.
The next morning, I woke up early and prepared breakfast.
Daniel sat at the dining table scrolling through his phone.
"Good morning," I said.
"Morning."
I smiled.
"Did the client meeting go well?"
He looked up.
"Yes."
"What time did you get home?"
"Around eleven."
My hand stopped moving.
"Eleven?"
"Yes."
I looked at him carefully.
"I thought you came home around midnight."
His face changed for a second.
Then he laughed.

"Amara, you were sleeping. How would you know what time I came in?"
I swallowed.
"I wasn't completely asleep."
He shrugged.
"Maybe you heard the door late. I came around eleven."
I didn't argue.
But deep inside, something broke.
It was tiny.
Almost invisible.
But it was there.
His first lie.
Later that afternoon, Vanessa came to visit.
She walked into the house smiling as usual.
"My girl!" she shouted.
I hugged her.
"Welcome."
She sat down and started telling me about her day.

I listened quietly.
Then she suddenly asked,
"Where's Daniel?"
I looked at her.
"At work."
"Oh."
Her response was strangely quick.
I studied her face.
"Why?"
"Nothing. I just wanted to greet him."
I smiled.
"You can greet him when he comes back."
She nodded.
We continued talking.
After a few minutes, her phone rang.
She looked at the screen.
Then she stood up and walked outside.
I didn't think much of it.
Until I heard her laughing.
Not the normal laugh she gave when talking to her friends.
It was soft.
Almost intimate.
When she returned, I asked casually,
"Who was that?"
She smiled.
"Nobody important."
My heart skipped.
Those words sounded familiar.
Nobody important.
That was exactly what Daniel had said when I asked about her messages.
I laughed nervously.
"You two are becoming secretive these days."
Vanessa froze for a second.
"What do you mean?"
"Nothing. I'm only joking."
She smiled.

"You know I can never hide anything from you."
I nodded.
"I know."
But that evening, something strange happened.
I was in the kitchen when Vanessa accidentally left her phone on the dining table.
A message appeared on the screen.
I wasn't trying to read it.
But the first line was visible.
"I miss you already."
My heart stopped.
I stared at the phone.
The message was from a number without a name.
Before I could think, Vanessa rushed back into the room and grabbed her phone.
She looked at me.
I looked at her.
For the first time in ten years, my best friend's eyes looked frightened.
"Who sent that?" I asked.
"What?"
"The message."
She laughed.
"Oh, that? It's just someone disturbing me."
"Who?"
"Amara, it's nothing."
I nodded slowly.
"Okay."

She changed the subject immediately.
But I couldn't concentrate anymore.
That night, after Vanessa left, I sat alone in the living room.
Daniel came home later than usual.
He kissed me.
"How was your day?"
I looked at him.
"Fine."
"You seem quiet."
I forced a smile.
"I'm just tired."
He sat beside me and pulled me closer.
Normally, that would have made me feel safe.
That night, it didn't.
I looked at the man I loved.
Then I remembered Vanessa's frightened expression.

I remembered Daniel hiding his phone.
I remembered the strange messages.
And for the first time, a terrifying thought entered my mind.
What if the two people I trusted most were hiding something from me?
I immediately rejected the thought.
"No," I whispered to myself.
Daniel loved me.
Vanessa loved me.
They would never betray me.
At least...
that's what I desperately wanted to believe.
