In House of the Dragon, Aemond chases Lucerys through the storm above Shipbreaker Bay intending to frighten and intimidate him. But once Arrax attacks Vhagar, both young riders lose control of their dragons.

Aemond desperately commands Vhagar to stop.

She doesn't.

Seconds later, Vhagar tears through Arrax and Lucerys, and the expression on Aemond’s face says everything: he wanted revenge, but he seemingly never intended for Luke to die.

The account in Fire & Blood is far darker. There is no clear last-second attempt to stop Vhagar presented to us. Aemond pursues his nephew after their confrontation at Storm’s End, and Lucerys and Arrax are killed above Shipbreaker Bay.

And what followed made the consequences even uglier.

Aemond became infamous as Aemond the Kinslayer—because killing your own blood was one of the greatest taboos in Westeros.

But there’s an important detail often confused in memes: Aegon II did celebrate Aemond’s deed and reportedly held a feast for him, while Alicent and Otto were horrified. Otto understood immediately what Aemond had unleashed.

Because Luke’s death wasn't simply another casualty.

It transformed a succession crisis into a blood feud.

Soon came one of the most terrifying promises of the Dance:

“An eye for an eye, a son for a son.”

And Westeros would learn just how horrifying that sentence could become. 💀

The show therefore gives Aemond something the historical account never clearly gives him:

Some characters need dragons, crowns and an entire throne room to command attention.

She just needs one look.

The first gives pure royal confidence—calm, composed and effortlessly powerful. The dark Targaryen styling makes it feel like she already knows exactly who she is and doesn't need anyone else's approval.

Then comes the second—and suddenly that serious royal image disappears. 😂 That playful smile shows an entirely different side: carefree, mischievous and completely alive. It's the kind of expression that instantly changes the energy of the entire scene.

And the third? Pure Targaryen elegance. 👑

The softer styling, delicate jewelry and confident smile create a completely different presence—less intimidating, more graceful, but somehow just as impossible to ignore.

That's what makes these three moments work so perfectly together.

Power doesn't always have to look intimidating.
Royalty doesn't always have to look serious.
And confidence doesn't always need a crown.

Sometimes it can be mysterious.
Sometimes playful.
Sometimes effortlessly elegant.

 AND ONE MARRIAGE MIGHT HAVE PREVENTED THE ENTIRE THING. 👑🐉

So why weren’t Rhaenyra Targaryen and Aegon II married in the first place?

It sounds strange at first—they were half-siblings with roughly a decade between them—but by Targaryen standards, sibling marriage was hardly shocking. More importantly, such a match could have attacked the succession crisis at its very source.

Imagine this scenario:

Rhaenyra remains Viserys’ named heir and future Queen Regnant. Aegon becomes her prince-consort rather than her rival king.

Suddenly, the two competing branches of Viserys’ family are joined instead of being pushed toward war.

Alicent would see her son connected directly to the throne. Otto would gain Hightower blood in the future royal line. And Aegon—who initially showed little enthusiasm for taking the crown—wouldn't necessarily need to carry the burden of ruling himself.

Most importantly, their children would combine Rhaenyra’s claim with Aegon’s position as Viserys’ eldest surviving son. That could make it far harder for ambitious lords to divide themselves into Black and Green factions.

Even the Velaryon problem might have had political solutions through future marriages and alliances, potentially keeping Corlys, Baela and the Velaryon power bloc connected to the royal succession.

Of course, it wouldn't guarantee peace. Otto's ambitions, Daemon's position, Corlys' interests, personality conflicts and Westerosi resistance to a ruling queen would still exist.

But compare those problems with what actually happened:

Dragons killed dragons.
Brother fought sister.
Children became casualties.
House Targaryen devastated itself.

And suddenly this uncomfortable marriage starts looking like one of the biggest “WHAT IFs” in Targaryen history.

👀 If Viserys had announced: “Rhaenyra remains my heir, and Aegon will be her consort”—does the Dance still happen? Or did Viserys miss the one political marriage that could have saved his family?

Catelyn Stark and Robb Stark were caught in one of Game of Thrones’ most devastating betrayals—the Red Wedding. Robb had broken his marriage pact with House Frey, weakening an already fragile alliance. Catelyn understood how dangerous their political position had become, but by the time they entered the Twins, Walder Frey, Roose Bolton and Tywin Lannister had prepared a betrayal from which there was almost no escape.

Years earlier in Westerosi history, Rhaenyra Targaryen and Jacaerys Velaryon faced their own nightmare during the Dance of the Dragons. Jace wasn't simply a reckless son—he was Rhaenyra's heir, a dragonrider and an active participant in his mother's war. His involvement in the Battle of the Gullet ultimately placed him in the battle that would claim his life.

But the meme hides a deeper truth.

Neither tragedy can simply be reduced to “they should have listened to their mothers.”

Robb was a young king carrying an entire rebellion on his shoulders. Jace was a prince fighting for his mother's throne and his family's survival. Both made choices shaped by duty, loyalty, love and war—and both paid the ultimate price.

Perhaps that's one of the cruelest recurring lessons in Westeros:

A mother can warn her son.
A mother can try to protect her son.
But once the game of thrones begins

That is what made Rhaenyra and Daemon Targaryen such a fascinating political pairing.

Rhaenyra wasn't presented as Daemon's path to power—she was the claimant. Daemon was a prince, warrior and experienced dragonrider, but when he married Rhaenyra, her claim remained at the center of Team Black's cause. He could command armies, wield Dark Sister and ride Caraxes, yet the crown they fought for was ultimately hers.

And that's what makes the contrast with Team Green so interesting.

Alicent possessed enormous influence, intelligence and political experience, while Helaena was queen—but Green power was still formally centered around Aegon II's kingship.

Meanwhile, Team Black was fighting to establish Rhaenyra herself as the ruling queen of Westeros.

Daemon and Rhaenyra's relationship was far from perfect—power, ambition and conflict existed between them—but visually and politically, their alliance delivered one powerful message:

Sometimes the woman doesn't stand behind the man.
Sometimes they stand together—and the realm has to deal with BOTH. đŸ”„

Daemon may not have appreciated her beauty, but Rhea Royce was absolutely stunning—and she was far more than just “Daemon’s unwanted wife.”

She was the Lady of Runestone, heir to an ancient and powerful Vale house, and a woman with status, lands and a strong personality of her own. Yet Daemon deeply resented their arranged marriage, spent little time with her, and repeatedly mocked both Rhea and the Vale.

The irony? While Daemon acted as though marrying Rhea was some terrible punishment, Rhea herself clearly wasn't impressed with the Rogue Prince either. 😂

Ormund Hightower and Tywin Lannister represent two different generations of Westerosi power: men who understood that you don’t need to sit the Iron Throne to influence who controls it.

In House of the Dragon, Ormund emerges as one of the Greens’ most important commanders. As the head of the immensely wealthy and powerful House Hightower, his army becomes crucial to the Green war effort, with Daeron Targaryen and Tessarion adding dragonfire to his campaign. đŸ‰âš”ïž

Tywin, however, built a terrifying reputation across decades. He restored House Lannister’s authority, served as Hand to multiple kings, commanded armies, forged calculated alliances and understood that sometimes winning a war required politics and fear just as much as winning battles.

The comparison becomes even more interesting because showrunner Ryan Condal has described Ormund as essentially “the Tywin Lannister of this world”—a massively wealthy lord with military power and enormous influence.

But Tywin set an incredibly high bar.

Give both men equal armies, equal wealth and NO dragons—who are you trusting to win the war: ORMUND HIGHTOWER or TYWIN LANNISTER? đŸ‘‡đŸ”„

The answer is actually much simpler than the theories make it sound: sleeping together once does not automatically result in pregnancy. The series never suggests that Rhaenyra became pregnant from Criston, nor is there any confirmed secret child between them.

But what makes that night fascinating is what came after. Criston wanted Rhaenyra to abandon everything and run away with him, while Rhaenyra wanted to remain heir and proposed continuing their relationship privately. Criston rejected that future—and their relationship eventually turned into bitter hostility. ⚔

Years later, Rhaenyra had Jacaerys, Lucerys and Joffrey, legally recognized as Laenor Velaryon’s sons, while the show heavily implies Harwin Strong was their biological father.

Imagine the political chaos if Rhaenyra had become pregnant by Criston that night. 😳 A princess, a Kingsguard sworn to celibacy, and another potential succession scandal before the Dance even began.
