This month, DMV productions collaborated with Equimundo: Center for Masculinities and Social Justice, an international organization dedicated to advancing gender equality by engaging men and boys as allies for positive change.

Our team supported Equimundo’s video initiative for their training course on engaging men and boys in gender equality, a program designed for:
- NGO and nonprofit staff seeking to incorporate male engagement into community programs,
- Educators, trainers, and youth-serving professionals wanting to create safer, more inclusive spaces
- Government officials and funders aiming to understand how gender-transformative work drives lasting social impact

Behind the Lens: EQUUS – Story of the Horse

Do you know the story behind this image? Four horses thundering across the steppe, a camera truck racing alongside. It wasn’t just a breathtaking moment—it was part of our work on Equus: The Story of the Horse, a PBS NATURE documentary that explored humanity’s oldest partnership.

In 2019, DMV productions joined the international team filming in Kazakhstan, where archaeologists believe horses were first domesticated. We helped bridge Canadian and local crews, filmed reconstructions in a purpose-built prehistoric village, and captured herds of wild horses across mountains, forests, and steppes. It was a month of history, science, and cinema converging on an epic scale.

The result? Sequences that don’t just show horses—they show our shared human story.

Exploring Different Worlds Through Image

On our recent trip to Vilnius, we discovered the incredible Portal installation—a live video “window” that lets you wave to people in other cities across the globe in real time. It reminded us that using images can connect worlds, and tell stories that sometimes words can't.

At DMV productions, every project is an opportunity to create a new portal—inviting audiences to step into different perspectives and possibilities.

This summer in Kazakhstan, I revisited the story of the horse in a unique way. Eight years ago, I took part in the production of the PBS documentary Equus: Story of the Horse. Here, inside a traditional earthen structure, visitors watch a scene from the film—an experience that beautifully connects ancient heritage with modern storytelling.

Part two of our Vilnius journey ✨
Each corner revealed new textures, colors, and rhythms that we can’t wait to carry into our work. Travel sharpens the eye—and Vilnius gave us a whole new lens.

This month, DMV productions traded DC traffic for Vilnius’ cobblestones, and it was exactly the reset we needed. Between the Baroque spires of the Old Town, the artists’ quarter of Užupis, the amazing ex-prison-turned-cultural center tour, and the golden Baltic light that makes every street look cinematic, we found new textures, colors, and rhythms to bring back to our work. Even better, we found the Portal Video Installation which enables you to wave at other people in other cities through the connection of video production. We also reconnected with family and enjoyed long dinners, old stories, and the kind of laughter that reminds you why storytelling matters in the first place.

Travel has a way of sharpening your eye: framing shots in cathedral courtyards, spotting scenes in café windows, and listening for the quiet moments that say the most. Vilnius gave us all of that, plus a deeper sense of roots and perspective we can’t wait to pour into upcoming projects.
