There’s a particular absurdity watching power try to announce itself… and miss.

Last week, Donald Trump floated a threat toward Iran that read like (or perhaps was) something pulled from the mouth of a madman. And yet, less than a day later, nothing. Just another cycle of escalation and retreat.

We could have predicted this inevitable outcome. Not just by his recurrent actions, but by the dictatorial presentation, or lack thereof. The suit. The tie. The way the silhouette begs for authority but never achieves it.

History has shown us that men like Adolf Hi**er and Pol Pot understood the assignment too well. Control wasn’t just policy but visual oppression. Tailoring as discipline. Uniform as message.

Here, there’s no such clarity. Just excess without precision. Volume without intent. A suggestion of power that collapses under its own weight.

What do you wear when you want to look in control of the world?

Stefano Gabbana—co-founder, and perhaps the label’s most unfiltered voice—is reported to have exited the brand. I know I, as well as many of you, are thinking it’s about f*cking time.

Details surrounding the departure remain, in true, begrudgingly standard fashion, opaque. There has been no disclosure as to whether Gabbana’s exit is part of a broader restructuring or if he’ll continue to play a role alongside co-founder Domenico Dolce, who remains at the company. Though some suggest the years of mounting reputational pressure and shifting market expectations played no small role.

In writing this, I have to ask… why now? Was it truly that last men’s show that reportedly featured only white models, with the note “dedicated to the singular identity of every man”? For a house so deeply entwined with its founders’ identities (and those identities often criticized as blunt, exclusionary, or offensive) the separation feels long overdue to simply call it a corporate maneuver.

Men don’t lack style. They lack the words for it. Womenswear has always had a language for fit, fabric, and silhouette. Menswear in recent years hasn’t done the same.

FW26

This is a brand we’ve been following quite closely over the last few years, Dorner’s mix of brutalist and blue-collar designs being quite the visual force.

War has always dictated what goes on our backs. From WWII biker gangs to Vietnam protest patches—clothes have never been neutral. The Iran war is no different, and fashion is already responding… but not in a way you might agree with.

The visuals of conflict are already moving through retail. Saint Laurent. Louis Vuitton. Dior. Alexander McQueen. They capitalized this before the headlines hit. What that means for what you wear (and whether it carries any meaning at all) is the question worth asking.

Can Zara maintain the new audience it’s seeking?

With the latest news of pending a collaboration with I’m reintroducing a conversation I had with fashion creator and strategist last December.

I ask him many questions about the retail giant in the full video (linked in bio) but here, we get at the heart of whether or not Zara can retain the mid/luxury tier consumer it’s currently catering to.

Fresh off the news that John Galliano is rifling through the archives—whatever that really means—the brand has now confirmed New York designer as its latest collaborator, which we’re in full support.

The collection, titled Vatísmo (superlative of “vato,” a term rooted in Chicano culture that speaks to friendship, community, and the pride of belonging) drops March 26th. (We’re standing in line for the shorts)
