The Romanesque spires of Parkersburg on a golden summer morning.

I took this photo early yesterday from Fort Boreman hill with my 100-400mm lens. The golden light was created by the early morning sun breaking through the thin fog layer that hung low over downtown. The two spires are the Wood County Courthouse and St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.

This was one of the most amazing sunsets I have ever seen, as the sky turned a deep red following some very strong late afternoon and early evening storms that hit the Charlotte area on Wednesday.

June's "strawberry" full moon quietly setting this morning. What's especially unique about this full moon is that it's very low on the southern horizon. In fact, it won't be this low again for another 18 years.

Days of Rain, Fog and Mist in the Smokies Part 1

Although it can be very crowded the Smokies are quickly becoming one of my favorite places. I could say it about a lot of spots, but this is one where I would be very happy the rest of my life just hanging out on the trails with my camera! The conditions were ideal last week with very cool temperatures, light rain, and a lot of fog and mist. Those are my favorite conditions for woodland or mountain streams. We're already planning to go back in late October when everything will have changed from the vivid greens of May to the sweet golden colors of fall and I can't wait.
