The league is going from a 96-game schedule to 102 games.

That means the Washington Wild Things will have 51 home games this year, and the home opener is Friday, May 15 against the Schaumburg Boomers, which is the first of a three-game set.

The Beth-Center volleyball team has a lot of traits that successful teams possess.

They’re experienced and they have depth, but for Bulldogs coach Steve Beyer the one that stands out to him the most is their ‘refuse to lose’ mentality.

It was there at the beginning of the season when they railed from a 2-0 deficit to a win in five sets in a nonsection match against Fort Cherry back on Sept. 2, and it has continued ever since.

Surprise starter Mason Heintschel threw for four touchdowns and led Pittsburgh to five first-half scores during a 48-7 win against Boston College on Saturday.

The 18-year-old Heintschel, a true freshman, made his first career start for Pitt (1-1, 3-2) in place of redshirt sophomore Eli Holstein. Heintschel is the first true freshman quarterback to win his first career start at Pittsburgh since Kenny Pickett in 2017.

They appeared to be the same players but Cal’s football team played anything but the style of football that produced a 45-38 stunning victory over arch-rival and previous undefeated Slippery Rock last week.

Talent-wise, Seton Hill is not Slippery Rock but the Griffins played a similar game and came away with a 16-7 victory over No. 6 Cal in a PSAC West game. This was the first time Seton Hill has defeated California. The Vulcans had won the previous 12 meetings.

Washington & Jefferson put up the most points it has scored in a road game in 134 years in a 70-13 drubbing of Hiram Saturday.

The last time the Presidents scored 70 or more points in a road game was against West Virginia, a 72-0 win in 1891. It’s only the second time it has happened.

With the win the Presidents improved to 2-0 in Presidents’ Athletic Conference play and 2-2 overall. Hiram fell to 1-2, 2-3.

Winless in four games in which they never led, their head coach fired, two coordinators gone and No. 7 Penn State in town. UCLA couldn’t get much lower.

“Nobody in the world expected us to win,” Bruins safety Key Lawrence said.

Indeed, the Bruins were 25 1/2-point underdogs. They went out and stunned the Nittany Lions 42-37 on Saturday, becoming the first 0-4 or worse team to beat a top-10 team in 40 years.

Shohei Ohtani and Teoscar Hernández hit two home runs apiece, Blake Snell struck out nine over seven strong innings and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Cincinnati Reds 10-5 in their NL Wild Card Series opener Tuesday night.

Mike Tomlin isn’t much on aesthetics.

The Pittsburgh Steelers coach knows his team hasn’t played particularly well over the first month of the season.

The offense remains a work in progress behind Aaron Rodgers, who has played steadily if not spectacularly. The defense is banged up and uncharacteristically gettable as a result.

Playing the goalie position in soccer naturally comes with stress and it takes a calm individual to handle it.

Peters Township’s Molly Kubistek certainly fits the bill.

She’s got a slow heartbeat, and it’s led to her having plenty of success.

Kubistek is the defending Moe Rosensteel Most Outstanding Player Award, given to the top WPIAL girls soccer player. She was the first goalie and first underclassmen to win the award.
