🎄✨ Spruce up wildlife habitat this holiday season!🎄✨

DEM is teaming up with Trout Unlimited Rhode Island Chapter for the eighth year in a row to collect donated conifer Christmas trees to improve habitats for wild brook trout and other aquatic life. Join us for the ‘Trees for Trout’ Christmas tree collection event!

📅 When: Saturday, Jan. 10, 10 AM – 3 PM
📍 Where: Arcadia Check Station, Wood River Arcadia Management Area, 2224 Ten Rod Rd, Exeter

What to know:
• Real trees only, no artificial or fire-retardant trees
• Remove all decorations, tinsel, lights, and stands
• Only whole conifers (no trimmings)
• Trees over 5’ preferred
• Bulk drop-offs (5+ trees) must be arranged in advance with RI TU: [email protected]

This summer, DEM staff and Trout Unlimited volunteers will use donated trees to build “conifer revetments” to reduce erosion, trap sediment, and create shelter for aquatic life so streams remain healthier and more fish-friendly year-round.
