The Cross Sound Ferry operates between New London, CT, and Orient Point, Long Island, NY. The traditional vehicle ferry takes about 80 minutes, while the high-speed, passenger-only Seajet takes just 40 minutes. It’s a great way to bypass I-95 and NYC traffic.

Ocean Beach Park in New London, Connecticut, originally opened on June 30, 1940. Making it 86 years old. It has remained a beloved local destination for decades, drawing over 500,000 visitors annually.

The park's creation was directly born out of the devastation left by the Great New England Hurricane of 1938, which completely destroyed the existing private cottages, rooming houses, and waterfront neighborhoods on the site. Following the storm, the City of New London acquired all the ruined property and decided to transform the area into a public beach park, taking inspiration from Jones Beach on Long Island.

Construction on the new park began in December 1939 and was completed in a swift 18-month turnaround. Planners designed the buildings in the Art Moderne architectural style, featuring nautical details like portholes and ship railings.

Over the decades, the park has served as a central hub for the community, offering an old-time boardwalk, an arcade, a massive beach, and an Olympic-size swimming pool. During the 1990s, it faced financial hardships, but a grassroots group called "Save Ocean Beach" (SOBs) stepped in to fundraise, organize cleanups, and preserve the park's attractions.
