It's Baseball time in Omaha, Nebraska! With the College World Series just around the corner, Ken and Kelsey are excited to shine the light on some local baseball history with Professor Emeritas John Shorey in this week's episode.
John Shorey is a historian who taught a nationally recognized elective course on Baseball and American Culture, has written articles and book chapters on a variety of baseball topics for various publications, including being a regular contributor to Baseball Digest. John has even presented his research at the Cooperstown Symposium on Baseball and American Culture along with other baseball conferences.
Most recently Mr. Shorey has received a grant from the Society of American Baseball Research (SABR) to install a historical marker where a ballpark on the west end of Council Bluffs once stood. Over a five decade period the ballpark was the host of 25 Major League Baseball Hall of Famers and countless other ballplayers. Community members, fellow SABR members and friends are invited to the ceremony.
Join John THURSDAY JUNE 25, 2026 at 4:30PM one block south of 35th Street and West Broadway in Council Bluffs for a historical baseball exhibit and the dedication ceremony.
