Dr. Jared Smith, Superintendent of Waterloo Community School District, stopped by KWWL News at Noon today to talk about the new Waterloo United High School.

With Waterloo East and West High buildings both significantly aging, the plan to consolidate the two schools into one building has been in the works for the past few years. Voters officially approved the plan in November 2024, and the new school is set to open in Fall 2028.

The mascot for Waterloo United will be the Titans and the school colors will be black and “Vegas Gold."

“The students think it’s awesome!” Smith said of the mascot logo. In fact, he said they’ve received nothing but positive feedback about the name, colors and mascot since they were revealed a month ago.

Smith also announced that an online store for the public to purchase new Waterloo United High School apparel will be launching around Thanksgiving, with purchases arriving in time for the holidays. The school will share the store website via email and social media when it opens, so watch for that in the coming weeks.

Dr. Smith stopped by to talk about the new Waterloo high school set to open in 2028, and the new school's name, mascot and colors.
