Awesome news from one of our community's local medical professionals, Prairie Lakes Healthcare System is recognizing Dr. Tina Melanson, Nephrologist, for receiving the 2025 Volunteerism Award from the South Dakota Chapter of the American College of Physicians.

Dr. Melanson as been serving patients, including a member of the Power 106.3/Star 98.1 extended family, for the last 14 years at Prairie Lakes and co-founded the Lake Area Kidney Endowment in 2015 to assist individuals in northeast SD and west central MN who are living with chronic kidney disease. Congrats to Dr. Melanson on receiving the 2025 Volunteerism Award!

Stay cool out there with this summer heat, folks! Some tips to beat the heat: Stay hydrated, take frequent breaks if you're working outdoors, and be sure to check on kids/pets/elderly/anyone else who might need to be checked on. Stay cool!

We can expect very hot, muggy conditions as we officially kick off summer this weekend. Heat index values reaching above 100 in parts of South Dakota today, tomorrow, and Sunday before a cold front brings cooler temps Monday. Stay cool out there! Stay hydrated, take breaks in the AC and away from the sun, and be wary of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Remember to consider the pets, kids, elderly folks, and anyone else who might need help with conditions like this too.

That's a wrap on the Shake Wagon in Watertown this week! Thanks to the Codington County 4H folks for passing out those shakes to folks in Watertown at the Dacotah Bank parking lot this week. Thanks to our friends at Platinum Realty for matching donations toward Codington County 4H yesterday noon-1pm. All proceeds going to a great cause. Even if the weather wasn't the best yesterday, they still matched a total of 39 shakes for a total extra donation of $156 directly to Codington County 4H.
