Almost four years in the making, our film, The Long Labor, follows the life-affirming journey of birthworkers and indigenous farmworkers coming together through ceremony, tragedy, and joy.
After losing her mother in childbirth, , grows up to become a nurse practitioner and certified midwife. Tired of a system that limits care, she leads a movement to restore indigenous wellness practices in farmworker communities —support that extends far beyond birth, especially during a historical flood and pandemic.
This film is a celebration of community, dignity and ancestral healing. In times when immigrants, women’s rights, and healthcare access are increasingly at risk, The Long Labor offers a glimpse of hope and possibility for care grounded in mutual aid, resilience and love.
