The sense of accomplishment Karen Spiegelberg feels when she reaches the summit of the 14,115-foot Pikes Peak in Colorado makes hiking in darkness, changeable weather and significant elevation changes all worth it. This year’s climb at the end of August, her seventh, was definitely one for not only Spiegelberg’s photo album, but for the mountain’s record book as the Oconomowoc alderwoman, her daughter and many others were forced to seek help for exposure.
