Norm Bruce, longtime owner of Martha Merrell's Books in downtown Waukesha, will have a hearing in front of the City of Waukesha Administrative Review Appeals Board on Aug. 15 to discuss the revocation of Bruce's Special Event and Street Closing Permit, which he has used to have live music outside the bookstore on Friday nights in the summer.

After overwhelming opposition, the New Berlin Common Council has withdrawn from consideration a plan to institute a wheel tax to close a projected $3.7 million budget shortfall. The city will hold a Special Committee of the Whole meeting next Thursday to discuss and take possible action on a proposed public safety referendum.

The annual National Night Out, a community-building campaign to enhance relationships between neighbors and law enforcement officers, was held in the City of Waukesha on Wednesday. Dozens of community organizations and public safety agencies were at Frame Park for an evening of fun, safety, and connection.

Friday Night Live's Crush Wine Bar live music stage, located at the rear of the wine bar, is moving inside for the remaining dates of Waukesha's Friday Night Live. The bar's co-owner Paul Kwiecien asked the city's Ordinance & License Committee earlier in July to have the city restrict municipal Lot 3 earlier than the current 5 p.m. setup start.

A firefighter was taken to the hospital for heat-related issues after a fire last Friday. The Mukwonago Fire Department was dispatched for a structure fire on Highway I.

Community Feedback Needed on Autumn Hill Academy Closure

Autumn Hill Academy in Pewaukee will not be opening this fall after the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, the school’s charter authorizer, decided to halt the launch of opening.

The school had students enrolled and expected to attend the Academy later this month.

A 49-year-old man from Greenfield died as the result of a motorcycle crash on Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Bluemound Road and Sunnyslope Road.

Kenneth Stribling has been selected as the 2025 Distinguished Alumnus Award recipient for Hamilton High School. A graduate from 1970, Stribling was involved in many athletic programs, including football, basketball, baseball, wrestling and track.
