Mr. and Mrs. Claus plan to visit the Witter Park Aquatics Center on Wednesday, Dec. 17 from 5-7 p.m. Visitors who bring an unexpired non-perishable food item can get a photograph with Mr. and Mrs. Claus. Hot cocoa will also available for purchase at the event.

The City of Wisconsin Rapids has declared a Snow Emergency beginning tonight at midnight through 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 10.

This declaration is being issued to support efficient snow removal operations and ensure streets remain safe and accessible for emergency travel. During the Snow Emergency, no person shall park or allow a vehicle to be parked on any City street.

This restriction applies to all vehicles of any kind. In accordance with City Ordinance, vehicles may briefly stop — not to exceed three minutes — for the active loading or unloading of passengers, provided no other parking regulations are violated. Vehicles left parked on City streets during the Snow Emergency may be subject to ticketing and towing. City crews will continue plowing and treating roadways throughout the duration of the storm.

Residents are encouraged to plan ahead, move vehicles off the street before midnight and allow extra travel time on Tuesday. For updates, residents can visit the City of Wisconsin Rapids website or follow official City and Police Department social media channels.

The WRFF Charitable Foundation, Saratoga EMS, Port Edwards FD, Grand Rapids FD, Biron FD and Rudolph FD are collecting donations and supplies for Christmas meal baskets for local families in need. As of this year, they are also including basic household and hygiene items in each basket. Donations are accepted through Friday, Dec. 5.

Grand Ave. between West Jackson St. and Lincoln St., and 2nd St. S between Oak St. and East Grand Ave., will be closed to through traffic due to the Rekindle the Spirit parade and tree lighting show by the Heart of Wisconsin Chamber of Commerce, beginning at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, and is expected to re-open at 8 p.m. the same day. The 115th Fighter Wing of the Wisconsin Air National Guard will be conducting evening training flights Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 12-13 and Monday through Friday, Nov. 17-20. During this time residents within the military training airspace may see or hear F-35 aircraft until approximately 8 p.m. Training flights normally take place during daylight hours, but pilots and maintenance personnel are required to conduct nighttime operations as a part of their overall readiness. Pilots will continue to follow flight paths designed to minimize noise to area residents.

12th St. S, between Daly Ave. and Dewey St., will be closed to through traffic due to a sanitary lateral repair by the City of Wisconsin Rapids, beginning at 7 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, and is expected to re-open at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31. Traffic will be detoured onto Chestnut St., then onto 16th St. S, then onto Daly Ave.

Saratoga St., between 15th St. N and 16th St. N, will be closed to through traffic due to a tree removal by Gabe's Top It or Drop It tree service, beginning at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, and is expected to re-open at 3:00 p.m. the same day.
