Redgranite’s Hometown Holiday is just around the corner, but the village has already started getting into the holiday spirit with its community Christmas trees at Veterans’ Park. Community member Patrick Edwards attended the Redgranite Village Board meeting on Nov. 17 to extend an invitation to any community member who is not able to afford their own tree to be a part of the village's new tradition.

Westfield School District is reflecting on the season of gratitude while also extending an invitation to share what you value and what you are willing to invest in. Surveys have been mailed out to all residents within the district, and all school families have received an electronic version.

Local firefighters spent nearly 10 hours containing the 350-acre marsh fire just east of Redgranite this past Sunday, Nov. 16.
The fire was started by a hunter's four-wheeler igniting dry cattail. After attempting to extinguish the flames, another four-wheeler caught on fire. The two hunters involved made it out safely on foot. The air's low humidity and the high winds caused the fire to spread quickly.
Firefighters from Waushara and surrounding counties all assisted, with about 50 firefighters controlling the flames. The fire was contained by 6 p.m. Sunday evening.

On Nov. 11, the Waushara County Tavern League presented a check to the Waushara County Food Pantry Inc. for $16,000 - enough to supply all the holiday meats for November and December. This means that 1400-1600 or more families in the holiday months will receive a turkey or ham thanks to the Waushara County Tavern League. The monthly meeting was held at Good Ol' Boys in Hancock, the newest of the 39 members of the Tavern League. The Food Pantry is open on Fridays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (closed on Nov. 28 and Dec. 26). While enjoying the holidays, let's take a moment to give thanks to the members of the Waushara County Tavern League for their generous donation, which will supply holiday meats to residents in Waushara County.

Students from the American Martial Arts Academy of Wautoma participated in the annual MAPMA (Midwest Association of Professional Martial Artists) tournament on Nov. 1st. Many placed in the various events, including Forms, Board Breaking, Sparring and Weapons.

UPDATE AS OF 3:30 PM: Firefighters are still working to contain the fire and traffic is being redirected away from Highway 21. So far 330 acres have burned.
The fire was started by four-wheeler.
