Author Randy Holndoner discovered Doctor Who when Tom Baker's Fourth Doctor was being shown on American Public Television. He was disappointed in losing the Fourth Doctor and took a break from the show, only to have his daughter reintroduce it to him in the 2010s and his fandom grew from there. He even helped others start Doctor Who collections. What happened from there is documented in our book "Fantastic! A Celebration of Fans Discovering Doctor Who".
