To increase safety and security at the school, in light of recent threats, the Pike County Career & Technology Center is making a change to the student's handbook. Beginning tomorrow (9/8/26), backpacks, briefcases, gym bags, and similar carry-all items will no longer be permitted in the school. If students have a medical reason that requires you to carry one of these items, they need to speak with the Dean of Students or the School Health Aide to discuss an appropriate accommodation.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has made the following appointments involving two local individuals. Ross County Sheriff George Lavender of Chillicothe has been reappointed to the Ohio Organized Crime Investigations Commission for a term beginning now and ending September 3rd, 2029. Jeffrey N. Sczpanski of Circleville has been reappointed to the Ohio Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Athletic Trainers Board for a term beginning now and ending August 27th, 2029.

Former Chillicothe Paints principal owner Chris Hanners will do a presentation about the sports of Ross County and talk about today's Paints as part of the First Capital Lecture Series. The lecture will be presented in the picnic area inside V.A. Memorial Stadium on September 12th at 2pm. The event is free and open to the public. Gates open at 1:30pm and refreshments will be available.

Today is a national holiday as we observe Labor Day. All local state, and federal offices, along with schools and banks, are closed today as we have the "unofficial" end of summer.

Shawnee State has elevated Austin Ridenour to assistant director of cross country and track and field. The Williamsport, Ohio native graduated from Westfall High School in 2015 and earned a bachelor's degree in sports management from Shawnee State in 2019. While at Westfall, Ridenour ran cross country and track from 2013-15. He continued competing in both sports at Shawnee State from 2015-19. Ridenour served as a high school cross country and track coach at his alma mater, Westfall, from 2018-25 before joining the Shawnee State cross country and track & field programs as an assistant coach in 2025.
