I LOVE planting sunflowers! We try to do some every year. Last year we had a typical Iowa wind storm that knocked quite a few down. No worries. I planted another succession that I saved from the rabbits eating the tender shoots miraculously. We left for a wedding for 3 days and the deer had stripped them clean. 😩😩
Anyway, I am anxious to see them again this summer! One of my favorite seed hybridizers is having his sale tomorrow. Check his amazing flowers out if you want to see something unique. I will be first in line for his variegated leaf ones if those get released! Here are some of my favorite pics of some of mine!

As I finished some soil blocking last night, I thought about a few negative comments on my posts lately regarding my use of plastics.
There will always be someone that does not see the whole story and know the thoughtful consideration that goes into every decision we make. They do not see me soil blocking when doing plastic trays would be faster/easier. They don’t see me with a backache because I washed and disinfected all of those bins and pots for reusing next season. They don’t see me buying beneficial insects or applying nematodes in the soil or spraying a molasses foliar spray to help control harmful insects instead of spraying pesticides.
I wanted to share my soil blocking to start new seeds from yesterday and my disinfected pots from this summer etc that were drying in the sun with all of you. These “behind the scenes”, uninteresting/unglamorous things are not always seen.
That all being said. I appreciate my fellow farming and gardening friends that have given me invaluable advice and those that engage positively. I will not let that 1% of people shadow out the positive vibes that gardening and my flowers bring! We do the best we can with what we can and I have no illusions that I will make everyone happy. We try!

I couldn’t stand not having any flowers so I bought this cute forced bulb at Trader Joe’s a few weeks ago. It was only the leaves a few inches tall. I can’t decide what my favorite spring smells are. Hyacinths, peonies or lilacs! Now that it has bloomed, I sniff it every time I walk by! 😝

I was trying not to make this post all squishy and mushy but I can’t help it. I’m so happy with this last year and I am so looking forward to 2026! You all made this happen for us and we are so thankful for your support.
We will be planning on so much more in 2026 and we will hopefully add a few more community service opportunities. If you have ideas for us, please share!
