🌿 Meet the Original Botanist of H**p: Carl Linnaeus 🌿
As H**p History Month comes to a close, let’s honor the man who gave h**p its scientific identity—Carl Linnaeus, the father of modern taxonomy.
📜 In 1753, Linnaeus formally classified h**p as Cannabis sativa L., cementing its place in scientific literature and recognizing its vast potential as a plant species—used for textiles, paper, medicine, nutrition, and more.
From ancient civilizations to colonial America, and now to regenerative farming and sustainable innovation, h**p has always been a species worth naming, knowing, and defending.
🧠 Did you know?
The “L.” in Cannabis sativa L. honors Linnaeus himself.
H**p is one of the first plants ever domesticated by humans, over 10,000 years ago.
Today, its botanical classification supports legislation, research, and innovation in every U.S. state—including right here in Virginia.
🌱 At the Virginia H**p Coalition, we believe understanding h**p's scientific roots is essential to building its future. Whether you're a grower, maker, healer, or advocate—your voice helps carry the legacy forward.
💥 Let’s grow the movement, together.
