BREAKING UPDATE: The uncle of a Tennessee teenager whose body was found in Jasper County on Monday afternoon has been arrested.

Victor “Jerry” Carver III, 37, of Collinwood, Tennessee, is now charged with manslaughter. He is in custody in Tennessee.

The body of 17-year-old Caden Cantrelle was discovered late Monday afternoon in Jasper County.

Don't miss out on the Independence Day Celebration at Waynesboro City Park today, gates open at 4:30, American Idol winner Chayce Beckham will take the stage at 5:30, followed by up-and-coming artist Drake White. The annual "Fireworks Spectacular" will begin at 9:00. Don't miss out on this evening of food, fireworks, and fun for the whole family!

With all the Independence Day festivities taking place this week and into the weekend, don’t forget Waynesboro’s annual Celebration on Thursday, July 3rd at Waynesboro City Park. The City of Waynesboro and Wayne Halfway House are once again teaming up to bring a great evening of music. American Idol winner Chayce Beckham will take the stage at 5:30 p.m., followed by up-and-coming singer/songwriter Drake White. Both performers have a great comeback story, and both are charting country hits. Many vendors have already signed up to offer all kinds of delicious food to Celebration attendees, and Wayne Halfway House will be providing fun activities for the kiddos. The annual Fireworks Spectacular, sponsored by the City of Waynesboro, will light up the sky at 9:00 p.m. Spectators can watch the breathtaking display from the park or different vantage points around town. Everyone is invited to come out to Waynesboro City Park on July 3rd. Bring your lawn chairs and your appetite, and get comfortable for a night of celebrating the birth of our nation!

Did you know we have Meals on Wheels here in Wayne County?
This is a free nutritional program for seniors aged 60 and over. There is a recommended charge of $1.50 per meal but it is not mandatory.

If you are 60+ and would like to have a meal delivered directly to you please call: 1-866-836-6678 to set up your deliveries.

You can also have a meal with others at the Waynesboro Senior Center or Senior Citizens of Collinwood. To order a meal to have at a center please call:

The Wayne County Commission, Budget Committee, and Solid Waste Committee will all meet on Thursday, June 26, 2025 at the Wayne County Administrative Building (former courthouse) on the square in Waynesboro. The Budget Committee and Solid Waste Committee will both meet at 6pm in the big courtroom, followed by the full Commission meeting at 7pm. RaeKar, Inc. is expected to present their proposal for the Solid Waste Department moving forward. As most of our readers are aware, the Wayne County Solid Waste Department is facing a large deficit in the upcoming FY 2025-2026 county budget, which has not yet been completed nor voted on by the commission. The public is encouraged to attend these meetings on Thursday.
