SWOSU Fact Friday: Did you know that classes began before the first building was even built on the Southwestern campus? Students began taking classes in three abandoned saloons in downtown Weatherford until the first building was under construction.

Media Monday: From March 12th to March 25th, 2020 all schools in the US closed their doors for what they thought would be an extra week of spring break. By May 6th, 2020 nearly all states in the US closed their schools and universities for the ‘19-‘20 school year. However, this did not mean that learning stopped.

SWOSU Fact Friday: Did you know that there used to be an amphitheater ON CAMPUS? Constructed in 1935, there was an amphitheater that sat north of the old Administration building. The amphitheater was said to seat over two thousand people. It was demolished in 1967 and replaced with a parking lot.

SWOSU Fact Friday: Did you know that The Southwestern, SWOSU’s student newspaper, has been around for over 100 years? The publication has undergone several changes in its time. At one point, it was a monthly newspaper, at another it was a biweekly magazine, then eventually it was a weekly newspaper. Nowadays, The Southwestern is completely online. You can find articles from the publication at the link in our bio.

Throwback Thursday: The SWOSU Women's Basketball Team was a powerhouse in the 1980s! The program won five national championships in this era (1982, 1983, 1985, 1987, 1990). The Lady Bulldogs were led by Coach John Loftin.

Media Monday: Having a pet during college can be a great way to find companionship and relieve stress. Pets can bring joy and comfort, making tough days a little easier. However, it’s important for students to think about the time, money, and responsibility that come with taking care of a pet. Whether or not an individual is ready for the responsibility and privilege of pet ownership is a very personal decision.
