Although the Wesley Chapel & New Tampa areas have a lot of restaurants serving Mediterranean/Middle Eastern cuisine, the stylish new Bosphorous Turkish Cuisine is finally open & it is a completely unique dining experience that is definitely worth checking out. The restaurant, part of an Orlando-based, six-unit mini-chain (which also includes a South Tampa location), serves Halal meats, but also has a full-service, premium liquor craft cocktail bar and delicious Turkish (and other) wines. More than 100 people attended the Grand Opening event for Pasco County Fire Rescue Station No. 2 on Aug. 14. All of the major candidates who won their respective Primary Elections on Aug. 18 โ€” including Republican Byron Donalds vs. Democrat David Jolly for Governor and Democrat Robert People advancing to face incumbent Republican Laurel Lee for the Dist. 15 U.S. Congressional seat โ€” also won their respective primary races by similar margins in New Tampa's 24 voting precincts.

New Tampa's results for local candidates also broke out similarly to the county's, including Rep. Stacy Hahn advancing to the Nov. 3 General Election against Dem. candidate Neil Manimala for the Dist. 5 seat on the Hillsborough County Commission & Dem. & former New Tampa resident Aileen Rodriguez advancing to face incumbent Rep. Joshua Wostal in County Commission Dist. 7.

Had the rest of the county voted as New Tampa did, however, incumbent Dist. 6 School Board member Karen Perez would have been elected without having to go to a Nov. 3 runoff against 2nd-place finisher Kenneth "Ken" Gay.

Two other items to note โ€” New Tampa's voter turnout of 23.2% was again less than the countywide turnout of 25.7%.

We also congratulate Dist. 16 State Senator-elect & Dem. Fentrice Driskell for delivering a dominating win in her Universal Primary Contest over fellow Dem. Michele K. Rayner without anyone in New Tampa being able to vote for our former Dist. 67 State Rep.!

Wesley Chapel's overall voter turnout for the Aug. 18 Primary Election (18.7%) was even lower than Pasco County's overall 21.5%, so despite all of the anti-incumbent online chatter we read, our area did nothing to buck the county's trend of unseating any Republican incumbents in the primaries. It remains to be seen if any of the incumbents moving forward to the General Election on Tuesday, November 3, will lose.
