Think you can handle the dark? Join us after school for our Horror Film Study as we screen Lights Out and explore how filmmakers use lighting, sound, camera work, and editing to create fear and suspense.

During the 1961 White House Conference on Aging, Jacob Reingold of the Hebrew Home at Riverdale (now part of RiverSpring Living) was inspired by a speech concerning the “new image of the aged,” and focused on recognizing the role of millions of older Americans who are grandparents. That same year, on September 16, 1961, the first day specifically honoring grandparents was held at the Hebrew Home.
In 1970, Marian McQuade began a campaign to establish a special day of recognition for grandparents. Through her efforts, she reached out to the civic, business, faith, and political leaders and began a statewide campaign for Grandparents Day. In 1973, the first Grandparents Day in West Virginia was proclaimed by Governor Arch Moore.
Their work culminated in 1978 when the United States Congress passed legislation proclaiming the first Sunday after Labor Day as National Grandparents Day. A presidential proclamation was signed by President Jimmy Carter and thus began the observation of this special holiday. - Grandparentsday.org

Each month, we'll screen a film and challenge you to focus on the aspects of filmmaking that interest you most. At our next meeting, we'll discuss what we observed, analyze the techniques used, and explore how we can apply those ideas to our own films.

We’re kicking off the year with an ICE CREAM SOCIAL right after school in Room 511!

Studio 511 is where all of our media opportunities come together: Laker Update, SkillsUSA, competitions, special projects, the Orchard Lake Film Festival and more.

If you’re already involved, come hang out and see what’s ahead this year!

If you’re a media student thinking…

“Wait…what exactly IS Studio 511?”

PERFECT. You should definitely come.

And here’s the exception we want EVERYONE to know:

🎬 You do NOT have to be in a media class to participate in the Orchard Lake Film Festival!

The Film Festival is open to ANY student interested in filmmaking; whether you want to write, direct, act, shoot, edit, help behind the scenes, or just figure out what this whole filmmaking thing is about.
