Some places just feel good the moment you walk in.

A visit to The Beanery on Washington is exactly that — warm, welcoming, and rooted in genuine care for the people who walk through the door. From the staff who greet you like a regular (even if it’s your first time), to the small details that make the space feel lived in, it’s the kind of local business that becomes part of a community’s daily rhythm.

Spending time here reminded us that hospitality isn’t about perfection — it’s about presence. About showing up, remembering names, and creating a space where people want to linger a little longer.

We’re grateful to highlight businesses like this that lead with heart and make our towns feel more connected, one cup at a time.

The Beanery on Washington in North Easton recently hosted a fundraiser for be; and we decided to go by to support it. A local café choosing to show up for community, inclusion, and connection in an everyday way matters more than most people realize.

For me, this one was personal. I grew up in Easton and graduated from Oliver Ames in 2005. Spaces like the Beanery just didn't exist back then.

If you’re curious about:
• Why you should get your morning cup from the Beanery
• Why spaces like this matter
• How inclusion works best when it’s part of daily life
• Or why good coffee can sometimes do more than you think

I wrote about it here 👉 https://tr.ee/Bndjbv

Huge thanks to The be; community and Beanery on Washington for creating a place where people can just be themselves — and to all the local businesses and neighbors who keep showing up for one another.

We’re excited to share the launch of be; seen, a new film series we created with — a community and resource center building spaces and creating social events for adults with differing abilities and LGBTQIA+ individuals.

This series is about more than just stories. It’s about celebrating the people who make up the heart of be; and showing the world what it looks like when everyone has a place to be their whole self.

And who better to kick things off than Thomas? 🎥
Thomas brings humor, energy, and his one-of-a-kind personality to the screen — a perfect reminder of why this work matters.

We’re proud to partner with be; in telling these stories, and we can’t wait to share more from the series in the weeks ahead.

Watch Thomas’s story here and learn more about be; at https://www.be-community.org/

Fresh food. Shared purpose. Growing together.

The Pantry Garden is a joint project between and Old South Union Church — a 100x100 foot plot with 26 raised beds, all dedicated to feeding neighbors in need. In 2023 alone, more than 1,481 lbs of culturally relevant produce were harvested, from beans and carrots to onions, tomatoes, peppers, and herbs.

But the impact goes far beyond what ends up on the table. Volunteers find meaning in planting, tending, and harvesting together. Neighbors see food being grown specifically for them — a visible reminder that this community looks out for one another.

As food costs rise and benefits like SNAP are cut, missions like this become even more vital. The Pantry Garden is a living example of how people, faith, and food can come together to build something that feeds both body and spirit.

It’s also part of how is reimagining food access — cultivating an infrastructure of people and places that grow more than just food; they grow connection. 🌱

The trucks are loaded, the boxes are delivered, and families across the South Shore are sitting down to Thanksgiving meals because of one of the biggest community efforts of the year. This video is a celebration of what your support, and hundreds of volunteers, made possible.

As the final chapter in our Thanksgiving coverage, this film highlights the last push inside the warehouse:
• 25 Stop & Shop volunteers helping move thousands of pounds of food
• Support from partners like the Weymouth Food Pantry
• Reflections from Chef Paul Wahlberg, Massachusetts State Senator Patrick O’Connor, and Jamall Griffin
• A full team working together to get food where it’s needed most

It’s the capstone to an incredible regional effort — and a reminder of what can happen when neighbors, partners, and local organizations pull in the same direction. Thousands of families felt that impact this week.

South Shore Food Bank’s Thanksgiving effort moves up to 25,000 pounds of food across the South Shore in just a matter of days — and the scale of what happens inside that Rockland warehouse is something most people never get to see.

From early-morning produce shipments to hundreds of Thanksgiving boxes assembled by volunteers, including more than twenty-five employees from Stop & Shop, this is a regional operation built to support thousands of families during one of the most important weeks of the year.

Our new blog post takes you inside the warehouse to show how the food moves, who powers the work, and how partners like the Weymouth Food Pantry, Scituate Food Pantry, United Way of South Central MA, College Hype, Church of the Immaculate Conception, the Mary Bielecki Foundation , and so many others make the effort possible.

And there’s more coming: an upcoming behind-the-scenes video and a Part Two blog featuring interviews with Chef Paul Wahlberg, Massachusetts Senator Patrick O'Connor, and Jamall Griffin from Stop & Shop — plus a look at final distribution days across the region.

What a night.

The November be; connected networking event at Barrett's Alehouse West Bridgewater brought together small business owners, nonprofits, realtors, creatives, and community leaders from across the South Shore — all in one room, all showing up for connection that actually means something.

The energy felt different in the best way. Conversations were easy. People lingered. New ideas sparked. Attendees told us it was the first networking event in years that felt worth the time, and honestly, we couldn’t agree more.

Huge thank-you to Barrett’s Alehouse for creating such a welcoming space. As GM Luke Morel shared, being involved in local community events is part of who they are — and you could feel that in every detail.

We’ve put together a full blog recap (with photos) on the night, including a closer look at why events like this matter, how be; connected is strengthening the local business ecosystem, and a spotlight on all the organizations who joined in.

Some of the organizations that attended are tagged so you can discover and follow them, too!

If you haven’t checked out a be; connected event yet — the next one is worth marking on your calendar.

We are thrilled to announce our new partnership with North Easton Savings Bank telling the stories of the community businesses that are locally invested.

For us, this partnership was a natural extension of our passion for highlighting and sharing the people and businesses on the south shore making an impact. NESB’s commitment to investing in the community is front and center as we engage in a campaign to highlight businesses like Odd Fellows Barber Co..

Check out Mike’s story, celebrate his success, and help us amplify small business and non-profits on the south shore by sharing!

This is the power of community banking - and it looks (and feels) better than ever.
