What do you do when your whole soul wants to create impact… and your whole nervous system wants to disappear?

I’ve been living in that tug-of-war lately:
Part of me wants to serve more, create more, be more visible.
Another part knows I need to stay “small” to finish what’s already on my plate.
And another part has learned that being small means something is wrong with me.

No wonder my system wanted to vanish.

If you’ve ever disappeared into scrolling, numbing, or “going quiet” and then felt shame about it, you’re not alone. Sometimes disappearing isn’t apathy — it’s protection.

In the newsletter I share the reframe that’s helping me: I’m not disappearing. I’m getting concentrated. I’m building a life where being fully myself is actually safe.

Every year, my six-hour drive home from Christmas is my mobile temple—deep reflection, intention setting, and dreaming into the new year.

Lately, I’ve added a November practice: clearing the mental and emotional gunk (acceptance) before I plan. This year that looked like meditation, a local Badass Manifestation group, a mantra training, and even AI helping me see the themes in my own writing.

What emerged? A clear knowing that it’s time to slow down, live more deeply, and remember: who I am changes the world.

I’m feeling all the feelings—overwhelm, hope, fear, rebellion, wildness—and I’m shaping them into a set of guiding statements for the year ahead.

This winter, I’d love to guide a small group through this embodied process together. If you’re curious, comment or message me and I’ll share details. Let’s set a truer tone for the new year, together.

Our brains are dramatic little storytellers.
They feel one strange sensation and—bam!—it’s off to the races.

“I’m tired” becomes “I’m depressed.”
A hot flash becomes “I’m falling apart.”
An ADHD brain that’s overstimulated becomes “I’m lazy.”

But what if we paused before filling in the blank?
What if we asked, “What else could be true?”

That pause might just be the doorway to compassion—and truth.

I went looking for “something new” and found it at Johnson Nature Preserve in Cincinnati—an area hit by the F4 tornado in 1999. What I saw: a split trunk arched to the ground sprouting a whole new tree; a 90-degree bend twenty feet up growing a different species; a “dead” log giving rise to two full-sized trunks—still one plant.

It felt like a mirror. Life bends us, splits us, reroutes us—and still we grow. That’s the will to life. If you need a practice: feel your feet, soften your jaw, hand to heart. Name one place where it’s hard and you’re still growing anyway. That’s your miracle.

Ever get so bored with the “responsible” stuff that you want to throw your planner out the window?
Same.

I realized this week that my future self depends on my current self doing the boring work — the system-building, the dotting of i’s — because that’s what steadies me for boldness later.

And when I let my body in on the process, this mantra came through:

“This slow simmer is deepening the bold flavor of what’s next.”

Whew. That hit deep.

What if your next level of passion is hiding in the slow simmer, too?
