⚠Attn: has now moved exclusively to ParkMobile for its parking.

The app works similarly to Flowbird, minus many of the issues, but you won’t need to download the ParkMobile app if you don’t want to. There’s a text-to-pay or even a call-to-pay option. There are also more kiosks downtown now.

Use code “LOVEWC” on your first downtown session to get $1 off your parking. (Don’t say I never did anything for you.)

Ok, so, who’s tried it? Better than Flowbird? Same? The early feedback I’ve heard seems to be positive.

⭐⭐It’s that time of year again when we stop to thank those who have dedicated so many years to making sure the next generation moves out of our basements. This year, West Chester Area School District will see 17 teachers retire. Please take a moment to thank them for all they do.

For the last ten years, West Chester students’ reading and math test scores have been falling. ➗➕📚 West Chester isn’t alone in the losses. It aligns with a national trend, but it also has to change, and the district knows it. This week, I talk to West Chester Area School District Superintendent Dr. David Christopher about what is being done.

👷🚧 has approved its 2026 paving plan. Eight streets, representing 112,214 sq ft, will be repaved this summer. The unexpectedly small number is due to two main factors.

Higher-than-expected snow removal expenses
Higher-than-expected petroleum costs.

Still, the borough says it will look to do better in the future. “We need to be doing more with our paving program than we are this year,” Borough Manager Sean Mettrick told Borough Council members in May.

Today, most of the Borough’s paving money comes from its Liquid Fuels budget, state funds provided to municipalities for road maintenance. How important are smooth roadways? Should the Borough budget additional funds to ensure more roads are repaved each year?

🚶🏾🚶🏻‍♀️🚶A recent survey of West Chester residents listed the lack of safe sidewalk connections as one of their top transportation concerns. A new proposal from West Goshen could address at least a piece of that.

Last week, West Goshen Township reviewed a proposal to add a sidewalk along Paoli Pike that would connect West Chester Borough and the West Goshen Shopping Center. However, completing the needed walkway won’t be easy - or cheap. Some Board of Supervisors members worried about the cost. While others pointed to safety concerns.

“Right now, [people] are walking in the street. And this is a solution to that,” Supervisor John Hellmann said.

Earlier this year, West Chester asked residents their greatest transportation concerns. Just behind replacing the Flowbird parking app (yep, it made the survey) were sidewalks. Two new projects seek to start addressing some of those concerns. 🚶🏻‍♀️🚶🏾

Plus senior walks, teacher retirements, and WCU baseball is World Series-bound. Also this week, after staring at bumpy, patched roads for months, we have our first look at the West Chester paving plan for 2026(!) I asked. You shall receive. 🎓⚾🚧

💦🚧Fern Hill Lake, the fenced-off reservoir near Airport Road, may soon be drained.

In a letter sent to West Goshen Township earlier this month, Aqua revealed plans to draw down the lake, partially remove Township Line Dam, and potentially transfer 114 acres to the township — a move that would permanently alter the landscape, public access, and future use of the property.

Last week, West Goshen Township discussed the potential transfer publicly for the first time. The biggest takeaway from the meeting? To quote Township Supervisor Chair Shaun Walsh, "This is not some kind of done deal." Approximately 40 residents attended Thursday’s meeting.
