Sometimes I look back at some of my work footage and think “That was dumb!” This is one of those instances. When I started cutting, I knew it was stupid but I kept cutting and thinking, it’s only one cut. The reality is that so many things could have gone wrong. These are the list of unsafe things I was doing in this video: 1. I was reaching too far. Being on my tippy toes, I knew that I should have grabbed a ladder so that I could reach it without stretching and being on my tippy toes. Reaching gives me MUCH less control of the saw 2. Cutting with my left hand so I could reach - the fact is I don’t have years of experience cutting with my left hand - meaning I have less control of the saw. If I had a ladder, I could have easily cut with my right. It’s one thing is I’m used to cutting with both hands, but I’m not. 3. I should have set the depth of the blade instead of having it all the way out, but I had it all the way out because I couldn’t reach 4. I knew the blade was dull but I was too lazy to change it. You can see it took me a while to get through it - I also hit a nail and had to take a break for a sec since I was reaching so high. All it would have taken was one little slip up and the situation could have been bad. We all tend to put ourselves in unsafe situations at one point or another. I was just lazy - plain and simple. It’s a matter of being wise about these situations to mitigate the risk of injury. I’m learning this every day and I’m going to keep thinking about this and make a note the next time I get that feeling knowing I can make it safer. I hope this video causes you to think about the various situations you put yourself in. Thanks for watching and following along! . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
