I was sad to hear upon returning from my vacation that Nick Gravenites had passed away on September 18th. If I recall correctly, he was a member of the Blues Hall of Fames & the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He collaborated with Janis Joplin for many years, was a member of Big Brother & the Holding Company, and wrote a couple of songs including a personal favorite "Work Me Lord" for her Kozmic Blues Band album.

Nick grew up in Chicago and was friends with Michael Bloomberg, Elvin Bishop and Paul Butterfield. He was part of the group The Electric Flag along with Michael, Barry Goldberg, and Buddy Miles. Nick's vocals on "Killing Floor" are simply badass and one of my favorite Howlin' Wolf covers. Nick Gravenites was 85....he will be missed!
