The Mazer has had the Diana Press collection for decades. Founded in Maryland, then moved to Oakland, Diana published works by Rita Mae Brown and Judy Grahn, Pat Parker and reprinted Dr. Jeannette Foster’s pioneering S*x Variant Women in Literature.

A rarely seen photo from the Mazer of Del Martin & Phyllis Lyon at LA Pride 1981. They are seen here at the Southern California Women for Understanding booth. These pioneers were some of the founders of the Daughters of Bilitis (DOB). The first Le***an organization in the U.S. started over 70 years ago!

Those of you who know about collectives won't be surprised by this book title by Barbara Wilson from the Mazer. Much of the revolutionary work done in the 70's by feminists and Le***ans was done by collectives. A collective is a group of women using consensus to achieve their common goals.

Have you ever in your life seen a woman bullfighter? We have. This is from the Charline Abernathy collection. In the 70's, she taught bloodless bull fighting to women and girls throughout the State of California. Here in second photo are three generations of women bull fighters. Charlene is center.
