Druidism and Psychiatry - L. Ron Hubbard
27 February 1969

Some years ago I asked a psychiatrist who came to a Scientology meeting why he did not personally refuse to electric shock and refuse to do brain “operations” on people if he knew it often killed them.

He gave me an astonishing answer. He said, “I have to do it. If I didn’t, I would be dismissed from the hospital for refusing to take part in the sacrifice.”

This puzzled me. But recently my attention was recalled to the work of Jung, one of the three major psychiatric authorities, who are Freud, Jung and Adler.

As you can find in Jung’s work, he laid tremendous stress on DRUIDISM and wrote a great deal about it.

Druidism was a Celtic inner circle of priests and lawgivers who seem to have practiced human sacrifice. Their cruel and inhuman rites led to their direct suppression by Rome.

In modern times the Druidism has revived and they are said to meet annually at Stonehenge, possibly their ancient stronghold in England.

This is the first clue I have ever had as to why psychiatrists think they have to kill and injure people.

Many psychiatrists have told me, when I interviewed them, or when they tried to get me to take themselves or their wives for treatment that electric shock retards a mental patient’s recovery by about six weeks on the average, that when it does not kill them it usually breaks their teeth and often their spines. Over 1200 were killed outright by electric machines in the US in one year. As to “operations” on the brain they die either at once or within 2 to 5 years according to psychiatric official tables.

Psychiatrists freely admit these treatments do no good and are murderous or damaging, the evidence appearing in their own publications or in public media such as Time magazine.

This has never ceased to astonish informed observers: that torture, injury and murder were practiced in the full knowledge of no benefit, much less cure.

Their authority Jung, druidism and human sacrifice offer for the first time some clue as to what it is all about.

Psychiatric front groups act frantically against any group who might discover their crimes.

Druidism in its day was the senior body above Celtic governments and dictated their actions.

The Profumo* scandal laid bare wild fantastic or**es by high officials.

I wonder, if when all the evidence is in, some fantastic explanation of why some UK Labour officials back up the psychiatrist and why the psychiatrist kills, might not come to life.

Like human sacrifice or ritual murders such as those of Britain’s recent colonies.

This enigma of unpunished official murder is one of the biggest social puzzles of our times to say nothing of seizure violations of human rights.

*Profumo scandal: Named after John Profumo, then British Secretary of War, who had an affair with professional call girl Christine Keeler. Keeler’s employer, Steven Ward, was in the employ of MI 5 (British Intelligence) in an effort to entrap Eugene Ivanov, a Soviet intelligence agent based in London. Keeler saw Ivanov at the Viscount Astor’s estate, known as Cliveden. Cliveden was where she also saw Profumo. In the scandal which ensued, questions of national security were raised, as a Soviet intelligence agent and a British cabinet secretary were having an affair with the same woman. Profumo resigned from his post amidst the controversy.

Do Scientologists believe in God?

You will sometimes see described as “non-denominational” This is not accurate. The correct term is “all-denominational.”

Here are a few quotes from L. Ron Hubbard on the subject:

“We are all denominational rather than non-denominational, and so we should be perfectly willing to include in our ranks a Moslem or a Taoist, as well as any Protestant or Catholic…”

From the book "Scientology: The Fundamentals of Thought":

“The eighth dynamic is the urge toward existence as infinity. This is also identified as the Supreme Being. This is called the eighth dynamic because the symbol of infinity stood upright makes the numeral “8.” This can be called the infinity or God dynamic…. "

“These dynamics could best be represented as a series of concentric circles wherein the first dynamic would be the center and each new dynamic would be successively a circle outside it.

“The basic characteristic of the individual includes his ability to so expand into the other dynamics, but when the seventh dynamic is reached in its entirety one will only then discover the true eighth dynamic.”

Scientology is a path to personal spiritual enlightenment and knowledge. Or, as Hubbard phrased it in a discussion with a student on the nature of God in a lecture of 12 February 1957 entitled "Final Lecture: Questions and Answers" (Released as part of the "Anatomy of Cause" lectures):

“Don’t ever miss this in what I teach you – don’t ever miss this: I am telling you how to get there, not what is there….We are studying a way of traveling rather than a series of destinations….”

“Now, there is an eighth dynamic which so far exceeds the ability of man to describe, and so calls into paucity his language, that for a couple of thousand or twenty-five hundred years, he has been totally confused and inarticulate on the subject. And never at any time would I put my foot in that morass, unless I wanted to go morass swimming.”

Is Scripture available to anyone?

About 99% of Scientology scripture is available to anyone. Most of these materials were adapted or first released in books. Scientology books are available at major book stores worldwide as well as from Churches of Scientology. The remaining materials consist of recorded lectures of L. Ron Hubbard that has been fully made available over the last decade (see below).

And those 1%? This material is open only to the experienced Scientologist but not he general public. Says religious scholar Jean E. Rosenfeld:

"All religions have origin myths, and all religions keep secrets from the uninitiated. ... Myths are symbolic expressions of existential truths; they are not literal accounts of historical events. Their truth — religious truth — is not subject to experimental verification. Religious truth sustains and organizes human societies and gives identity — and thus, sanity — to human beings. Expressing oneself religiously and symbolically is an essential ingredient of being human. Myth will always be with us, whether created by cosmologists, as the Big Bang theory, or by poets and prophets as alternative accounts of world creation."
(Los Angeles Times, 22 February 2008[1], Jean E. Rosenfeld is a historian of religions at the UCLA Center for the Study of Religions).

In December 2009 the Church of Scientology released 970 CDs with restored lectures of L. Ron Hubbard that contain a "day-by-day record of research and development" of Scientology technology. The restoration of these lectures finished a 25-year project of tracking down and recovering tapes, wax disks and other recordings of L. Ron Hubbard's dictations and lectures. More on the restoration and recovery of these materials has been described in the New York Times of 8 January 2010[2]:

The new materials were announced in a New Year's celebration at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles that was broadcast to churches around the world last week and include 1,020 lectures and hundreds of corresponding booklets from courses and other sessions with Scientology ministers from 1953 to 1961. They include discussions of how Hubbard arrived at the principles of Dianetics and his research on everything from decision-making to personal responsibility.

They were recovered through a painstaking hunt that led members to find tapes and papers in a basement in Wichita, Kan., a storage trailer in Phoenix, and a garage in Oakland, Calif., among other places. Some of the materials were believed to have been lost.

''We've been able to restore lectures we literally never thought would be heard again,'' Davis said.

The release marks the third and final batch of Hubbard works to be distributed as part of the decades-long project initiated by Hubbard himself but carried out after his 1986 death by the church's current leader, David Miscavige. Releases in 2005 and 2007 included updated versions of 18 basic Scientology books to correct transcriptional errors, as well as hundreds of other lectures given by Hubbard.

''It's so huge for our religion having these materials. It's really a renaissance,'' said Davis. ''It's as if it's a rediscovery of our own scriptures and what they hold and what they mean.''

As of April 2020 all of this material is publicly available (on http://www.bridgepub.com).
