Even though we are in the heart of summer, just a friendly reminder to our high schoolers that our NMU partnership has expanded this coming academic year to include Northern's Biology 111 in conjunction with our English and Mathematics courses taught by NMU faculty right inside WHS. For students taking advantage of those courses, please remember to stay on top of your course schedule and correspondence that will come your way in August as the new semester draws near. Go Patriots! Go Wildcats!

Aspen Ridge Middle School Girls' Basketball Tryouts:

Mark your calendars!

Coach Peterson and Coach Annala will hold middle school tryouts starting on Monday, August 25th for both 7th and 8th grade teams. Times will be determined closer to that date, but both tryouts will take place in the morning. Practice will then continue through that week. Thank you to Debra Young and the Marquette Kennel Club for their generous $1,000 donation to the WHS Drama Department. We appreciate their continued partnership, as they use our facilities to host Scent Walk Trials. Their support means a great deal to our students and school community.

As some of you may know, our friend, classmate and student Gavinn Miller was in an accident this weekend. He has a long road to recovery down at U of M. Friends of his family started a GoFundMe page to help in this time of need. For those interested, you can find the page link below. We are thinking of Gavinn and wishing him a quick return to good health.

Another big congratulations to our Construction Trades students and Marc Nutini for building a beautiful gazebo for a community group called the UPCC! They received a grant from CCI and commissioned our students for their project. A big thank you as well to Nate Smith and Hunter Smith from Premium Sheds. They help mentor our students and went above and beyond coordinating the delivery of the gazebo to a high ridge above the Tilden Mine. Great work, everyone!

A fun day of football at the Superior Dome, where we were represented by Preston Argall on Team Red and Tristan Miller and Coach Thomas on Team Black! Team Black ended up victorious by a score of 56-7.

Summer Food Service Program Information

On the district website, www.nice.k12.mi.us, under the Parents tab, select Lunch Program then summer Food Service Program. Click on the Meet Up and Eat Up Site Locator Map of the USDA Meals For Kids Site Finder to find Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) Summer meal sites near you.

The SFSP was established to ensure that low income children 18 and under continue to receive nutritious meals when school is not in session. You can use the maps to find Summer Meal sites near you or to help someone find a Summer Meal site near them.

NICE is a public school district; the acronym "NICE" stands for National Mine, Ishpeming Township, Champion – Humboldt – Spurr Townships and Ely Township.

📢 Weight Room Schedule Update + Dead Period Reminder

Here’s a quick heads-up for the upcoming weeks:
🗓 June 30 – July 4

The weight room will be open Monday through Thursday (June 30 – July 3).

🚫 Closed on July 4 in observance of Independence Day.
🗓 July 6 – July 12

This is the MHSAA Dead Period — no training, workouts, or team activities will take place during this week.

At tonight’s Board Meeting, the Board unanimously approved the hiring of Coach Christie Makela as our Varsity Girls Basketball Coach. Coach Makela brings an extensive coaching background, including most recently as our Junior Varsity Coach. Congratulations Coach, and Go Patriots!
