The 50th Homecoming celebration of Westland Elementary was a success, said Crystal Whitehead, who organized the event.

“We had a great turnout,” she said. “I think it was beyond a lot of people's expectations. We had a lot of past and current teachers, alumni and a lot of the community.”

In a sales tax revenue report to the city council in late August, Danyce Steck, Finance Director, relayed some tough news.

“While we saw 1% (May) or 5% (June) growth, we actually would consider that a decrease in sales tax because there was a 10% inflation factor,” Steck said.

The city has received more money from sales tax in the past few months than last year, but inflation is blasting a hole through the gains.

In late August, the West Jordan City Council debated whether to use the new voting system in next year's election.

And, like the name states, it’s a team sport with two teams of seven players each (including the goalie) attempting to pass the ball using their hands and shoot it into the opposing team's net. The team that scores the most goals wins.

On June 30, the Utah Farm Bureau Federation, the Salt Lake Chamber and the American Business Immigration Coalition held a press conference to bring awareness to a bill they are lobbying to pass in the Senate to help with the open jobs they struggle to fill.

The American Business Immigration Coalition partnered with the Salt Lake Chamber and Utah Farm Bureau Federation to educate the public about the need for immigration law changes to support local farming.
