🌟 AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT: Mariclaire Norton
📖 Once and Future
Published by SeeRenDip Publishing
“I write because I feel almost compelled to do so. I feel the heroine of my story needs to be heard.”
Meet Mariclaire Norton, a natural-born storyteller whose debut novel Once and Future was over four decades in the making — born from a role-playing game shared with her now-husband more than 45 years ago.
🌿 What’s the book about?
“It’s the story of Tara and Alaric… two people from different cultures finding each other and uniting with others even less like them against a common enemy.”
“The story began in role-play, was lost, rebuilt, and evolved over the years — characters, backstories, and world all growing alongside it.”
💫 What inspired her to write?
“I’ve been writing since high school — mostly short stories and poems. Writing is part of who I am.”
🎭 Three Words That Describe Her
A Good Listener. Loyal. Outgoing.
“I love learning from others… and I’ve been a performer, mostly singing, for most of my life.”
👁️ Something Most People Don’t Know
“I was born legally blind… with ‘pinpoint, mirror vision.’ I only saw through a tiny opening, and everything was backwards.”
“Luckily, the condition corrected itself — and it didn’t stop me from becoming a voracious reader.”
❤️ A Favorite Moment?
“The scene where Tara realizes the Master Lifenstone can allow her to speak with her dead mother… speaks to me personally.”
“But there are many others — especially as she and Alaric get to know one another.”
🎶 If Her Book Were a Movie?
“A Celtic/Norse blend with very heroic themes. John Williams would have to be the composer!”
✍️ Writing Process
“I call my writing style ‘Muse writing.’ I write when inspiration hits — and it doesn’t do so in any routinely manner.”
🧠 Hardest Part?
“Editing and revising.”
“But I know the editor has my best interest in mind — and wants me to write the best story possible.”
💡 Advice for Aspiring Writers
“Never give up.”
“Remember that we write not for ourselves, but for others — and for our characters and their stories.”
🌺 Final Words
“I also love pre-Christian Irish and Norse culture and mythos.”
“These practices and beliefs are woven into a very human story — a story I’ve waited a lifetime to tell.”
📚 Once and Future is available now — a mythic fantasy of unity, resilience, and love across cultures and time.
