I truly believe that listening to music outside of your niche genre is not only important, but 100% necessary. Without inspiration from widely different genres, music can become very repetitive. Potentially even dull.

Artists, if you send me your files to mix and master, please make sure your recordings are good.

Here's a few tips to get good recordings.

Make the room you’re recording in is as “dead” as possible (No reverb in the recording. It can be added when mixing)

Get the best mic you can afford to record with.

Use a pop filter (to stop the plosives like B's, P's, T's, etc)

Stay about 4 to 6 inches away from the mic when recording. Getting too close to the mic will make it sound boxy, boomy and muddy (you don't want recordings that sound this way).

Avoid overloading your pre-amp (record in at -18 to -12 dbfs). If it seems too quiet, turn down the beat in your daw and turn up the volume to your headphones and speakers. I can get your mix to maximum volume when mastering.

Avoid headphone bleed. Don't record with the headphones too loud. If you can hear the beat on the vocal tracks it makes it harder to mix.

Why would you even be thinking about releasing a full length album if you don't have a good fan base? Who's gonna buy this album to get back the money spent making it? A better idea would be to release singles and build your fan base with them then once you have a good buzz, release an album that will actually sell and bring in profits. Just a thought.
