Friends, I watched Supernova this weekend and I have feelings. Colin Firth and Stanley Tucci will absolutely wreck you in the most beautiful way.

New blog post is up about the film, about silence, and about what great art does to a person when they least expect it. Go watch the movie, then come read this.

I have a confession that will surprise exactly none of my regular readers: I watched a Colin Firth film this weekend.

Did you hear Odell Beckham Jr say $100 million wasn't enough to last his lifetime? Before you roll your eyes -- a financial expert says he has a point.

The same mistake OBJ made is one most of us make every single day, whether we're working with $100 million or $100. I sat down with a wealth management pro to find out what it really takes to build lasting financial security. The answers might surprise you.

. Neil deGrasse Tyson recently took aim at the aliens in "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," arguing they couldn't have known our longitude and latitude system since it's a human invention. And honestly? It's the kind of sharp observation that makes you nod along.

Until you remember the returned abductees.

Those aliens had military aviators on board, people for whom navigating by coordinates was second nature. The film actually answers Tyson's objection, quietly and cleverly, if you watch carefully.

I wrote about why "Close Encounters" is smarter than it gets credit for, and what Spielberg got right that even brilliant scientific minds can miss.

Here is a question I grew up watching my parents answer very differently: should you pay off your mortgage early, or invest that extra money instead?

My father kept his loan and fed his investment accounts. I paid mine off as fast as I could. Years later, I have come to believe we were both right, and the reason why says a lot about how personal, personal-finance really is.

In my latest article for The Heather Kelly Show, I break down the math behind opportunity cost and investment arbitrage, share what Dave Ramsey and George Kamel told me about behavior vs. head knowledge, and explain the one step you should take before you do either.

If you or someone you know has wrestled with this question, I think you will find it worth the read.

The math favors investing. Your behavior might not. Here is how to find your answer.

Being unemployed, doesn't mean not working. I would argue the 'workday' is much longer trying to find a job.

Every time there's a market scare, the headlines are the same: gold is surging, Bitcoin is spiking, and everyone's asking if they should buy in. Before you do, ask yourself: what are you actually buying?

Most people investing in gold today don't own a single ounce of it. And most Bitcoin holders don't control their own coins. The assets that feel like protection from a broken financial system are, for most investors, fully dependent on that same system to have any value. I unpacked the logic — and the illusions — behind commodity investing. Worth a read before the next panic hits. 👇

Why Commodity Investing Is Fool's Gold

Every time you charge your phone, join a video call, or keep the server room running — a lineman made that possible.

On National Lineman Day (April 18), Utah's Office of Energy Development salutes the 2,600+ Utah line workers who keep our grid alive in 100°F desert heat, 3 AM ice storms, and everything in between.

Here's what most energy policy discussions overlook: the grid doesn't just need new power sources — it needs the skilled hands to connect them. As Utah expands into geothermal, nuclear, solar, and wind, the lineman shortage is one of our biggest infrastructure bottlenecks.

Utah is investing in workforce pipelines to close that gap. Because the most sophisticated energy project in the world is worthless without the people who string the wire.

To every lineman in Utah: we see you, we need you, and we're building a future worthy of your craft.

Real talk 👇 Four months ago I was laid off after 13 years. I was scared, stuck, and had no idea what came next. Then everything changed at once. 🌊 New job. New show. New chapter. I wrote about the whole messy, hopeful journey — link in bio. If you're in your own desert right now, this one's for you. 🏜️➡️🌊

The turning point I didn't see coming (and the one I created myself)

I am happy to announce I am the new PIO for the Utah Office of Energy Development. I will have a very steep learning curve to get up to speed but am so excited for the opportunity to do so. If you have any energy questions -- give me about 90-days and I should be able to answer them. 😉

Thank you to Emy Lesofski, Tracy Rees, Cindy Jones and the rest of team for giving me such a warm welcome.
