Social Media Tip: "How do I know what to post?" "How do I know when to post?" "How should I post on social media without looking too spammy or salesy?" "How do I get more engagement on my posts?"
Just a few housekeeping rules to keep in mind before we get to the tips. There's a few things I like to follow when it comes to posting on social media. Remember when it comes to social media, it's about the conversation. The more natural you seem online, as if you're talking to someone face to face, the better your social media presence will become.
I'm sure we've all seen it. We've seen those profiles who post link after link, trying to sell their stuff. They then wonder why they're not getting sales. Social media can be leveraged for the short term and long term when used correctly.
Remember this too, social media is all about strategy. Think about it as if you're writing emails. There should always be a goal in mind that will lead people to do what they want to do, which in return is what you want to do as well.
Now that we've got that secured, let's go for the tips:
The 3-2-1 Method
This is what I've learned over the years when it comes to social media. This works on all social media platforms, especially Facebook and Instagram. This is a basic system for posting.
3 days in a row you're going to post lifestyle posts.
This is stuff that you're doing on the regular. Stuff like what you're doing at that time, interesting things going on, stuff that's going on in your life, etc. If you're a digital nomad or a traveler, post about those. If you're a business owner, post about funny things going on. This also includes special events, successes, losses, etc. Let people into your life.
After that, 2 days in a row you're going to post value posts
This can be anything from blog posts, to inspirational posts, to tips and tricks, to value videos, etc. This is where you teach your audience. Remember that you should have a niched following of people who want to hear what you teach about a specific niche. Don't have a following yet? Start posting in groups of that niche and adding people as friends or followers of the same niche.
And finally, 1 day in a row you post about business. Ask for the sale.
This is when you invite people to make a purchase, join a group, or ascend the value ladder. Add true urgency to it, and have an open and close date and time. Think about how you can incorporate this into upcoming product launches and tie your value and lifestyle posts into it.
Now keep these in mind:
These are guidelines. You can do 4 lifestyle days, 3 value days, etc. The concept is that you do more lifestyle and value posts than asking for the sale.
If you can add humor to it, you're audience is sold.
If you can talk about your ups and downs, it makes you more realistic and shows you're a real person. It can also It will also keep people around more. Think about soap operas or your favorite tv series.. Why do people watch them? Because there's a roller coaster ride (My wife's and my favorite is The Office. Michael Scott is so funny, witty, clever, dramatic, and embarrassing all at the same time 😂
