DEADLINE EXTENDED: ORBS’ Road to Memphis Blues Challenge registration is closing this week!! Acts must live within 150 miles of Monroe, LA. Regional winners will advance to compete in Memphis at the International Blues Challenge (IBC) and receive a travel stipend and guidance from ORBS.🏆
Our third annual Blues competition will be held on Sun, Sept 28 at the Krewe of Janus Den, 901 Louisville Ave., Monroe, LA. The first seven Bands and the first seven solo/duo acts to register according to the rules will compete before a live audience.
Winners will advance to compete on an international level in Memphis at the IBC to represent the Ouachita River Blues Society (ORBS) and our region. This is a tremendous opportunity to launch and grow your music to new heights by competing with top musicians from around the world and networking with industry leaders.

Don't forget this Wednesday.

Josh Madden is a North Louisiana musician, music teacher, and event producer. He has been playing regularly for more than two decades, performing live at venues and social functions throughout the region. His musical influences are Jerry Lee Lewis, Ray Charles, and Elton John on the piano, and Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Dave Matthews on guitar. With a repertoire of several hundred songs in all types of genres, he is sure to please crowds of all ages! After graduating from the University of Louisiana at Monroe in 2003 with a degree in Mass Communications, he began teaching guitar and piano lessons in 2004. He also worked at KEDM Public Radio for several years where he hosted his show 'The Set List.’ He co-founded the nonprofit music and theatrical production company Josh Madden Productions in 2023 and they will already be producing their 10th event this December with ‘A Christmas Story’ at 111 Cotton in downtown West Monroe.

Austin Forsythe, 31 years old originally from New Orleans, LA has been performing and writing music since the age of 16. He moved to the Ouachita area 7 years ago and has recently gotten back into his craft. His influences are vast from alt rock, R&B, indie, country, and more. He's recently released 2 Christian Acoustic EPs entitled Addicts Letter Parts 1 & 2 based off his struggles in addiction and how God has gotten him through. They are available wherever music is listened to!

Born in Ruston in 1998, D.K. first sang along to B.B. King at age two, grew up in church choir, and by 16 was writing songs. His first paid gig came at the B.B. King Symposium in Indianola, MS—where he played The Thrill Is Gone on King’s own guitar, Lucille, backed by members of King’s band.

Since then, Harrell has won the 2022 B.B. King Of The Blues Award and the 2023 Blues Music Award for Best Emerging Artist, released his acclaimed debut The Right Man, and toured the U.S., Canada, and Europe to rave reviews. Rock & Blues Muse called him “an absolute beast,” while Blues Blast hailed him as “the fastest-rising talent in the blues today.”

Now, with his Alligator Records debut album, Talkin’ Heavy, D.K. cements his place among leading voices of the new generation of blues players.
