NOW FOR PRE-ORDER: Tim Gallant's new book, 'Exchanging the Glory: Idolatry and Homosexuality in Romans 1'

Get the book here: https://athanasiuspress.org/products/exchanging-the-glory-idolatry-and-homosexuality-in-romans-1

In Romans 1, Paul discusses homosexuality as part of his larger argument announcing judgment on idolatry. Idolatry and homosexuality are birds of a feather— gods that are not gods and sex that is not sex, glory exchanged for futility and living reality for a lifeless parody.

The God of Israel is our glory. Our opposition to homosexuality is not. Our opposition to homosexuality, like our opposition to every other sin, is a facet of our faithfulness to a holy and loving God who has created us and redeems us for true life and liberty.

In Exchanging the Glory: Idolatry and Homosexuality in Romans 1, Tim Gallant homes in on Paul’s consideration of God’s glory. Idolatry not only gives rise to homosexual practice but exchanges the glory of the one God who has created us as sexual beings and who calls us into holiness through the life of His own Son and the power of His own Spirit.

In addenda, Tim Gallant also answers the question, “Was Jesus silent about the subject of homosexuality?” and critically responds to the views of Matthew Vines and the Reformation Project.

God of Hope

Don't miss out on Peter J. Leithart's newest book, "God of Hope."

According to Leithart, "Since God is hope, hope is far more than an optimistic feeling or merely a human virtue. Hope is God’s own life, and our hope is the effect, the excess, the overplus of the work of the God of hope in us. The Spirit doesn’t hope on our behalf, but the Spirit deifies our spirits so that we come to possess something that resembles the stable, relentless hope that He is."

Worlds die. Our own world is in such turmoil that we wonder whether we can live in hope. Through the gospel, the Father gives us a hope that is not simply a desire or expectation for future good. Hope is our present possession because God is our present possession. As members of Christ who is our Ho...

The Epistle of James Through New Eyes: Wisdom for Dissidents

Available for Pre-Order: Jeffrey J. Meyers' new book, WISDOM FOR DISSIDENTS:

In his commentary on the Epistle of James, Jeffrey J. Meyers explodes the idea that James wrote a general epistle with a generalized message to everyone at all times. Instead, Meyers shows how James is addressing Jewish Christian disciples who were tempted to imitate the world in bringing about change through destructive means.

By calling attention to the Hebrew Scriptures and the Beatitudes, Meyers contends that James is cautioning Christian leaders against the seductive lure of revolutionary zealotry to bring about the righteousness of God in the face of intense suffering and persecution. The epistle is, Meyers says, ancient wisdom for today's Christian dissidents.

Theopolitan Mission

NEW BOOK FROM PETER J. LEITHART:

In "Theopolitan Mission," Peter J. Leithart explores the meaning of human "making" and the model of two biblical makers, Noah and Jesus, to identify the church's mission as the calling of man: to build God's temple in the world, then to remodel the world after the pattern of the sanctuary.

Jesus is the Carpenter of Nazareth, the new and greater Noah, who builds a living ark from the timber of humanity. Through us, the remade humanity, Jesus fulfills His second task, remaking the creation. Like the first godly maker in Scripture, Jesus builds an ark to preserve the treasure of the old world, which are materials for a new world.

Theopolitan Mission concludes its meditation on making, mis-making, and right-making by attending to the book of Acts, the great missionary narrative of Scripture.

Theopolitan Mission is a companion to Leithart's Theopolitan Liturgy, part of a meditation on the relationship between liturgy and culture.

Do the violent Psalms reek of masculine bravado?

Hardly.

If you're looking for some really bloodthirsty lyrics, check out the songs of Miriam (Exodus 15), Deborah (Judges 5), Hannah (1 Samuel 2), and Mary (Luke 1).

The bride of the Lamb rejoices in His victories.

We sing in order to fulfill and mature in our vocation as priests, kings, and prophets in Christ, the high Priest-King and chief Prophet.

Music is a sacrifice of praise.

Through music, we ascend in our own breath and body (not through the blood and body of an animal) to the presence of God.

When we sing, we circle the cities of men with trumpets and voices, shouting until the walls fall flat (Josh 6).

Faced with an invasion, Jehoshaphat called out the choir (2 Chr 20), who sang and played until the invaders were destroyed.

When we as the priestly city lift up the Lord on our praises, the Lord terrorizes our enemies.
