The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse — a 120-acre parcel Congress designated an Outstanding Natural Area in 2008 — has been losing roughly 7 feet of land a year to the Loxahatchee and Indian rivers that border it.. A $16 million project now underway uses riprap, a sheet-metal wall and a gravity-based concrete retaining wall to halt the erosion, while adding 6,000 mangroves, a snorkel trail, glass-bottom kayak tours and an 835-foot shoreline walkway. Boater and angler access is preserved, with room for 15 to 20 boats. The work, shot from the air by Paul Dabill Photography, is due to finish in December.

Usually it's residents accusing officials of allowing too much development. In tiny Lake Park, it's the other way around: a New York developer is suing the town in federal court, saying years of review on his 16-story apartment project amount to an unfair taking — and accusing the town attorney of stalling to clear the way for someone else. The attorney says that's just not true.
