This is an abridged Editor's Letter. See the full version via link in bio to this week's print section at notables.palmbeachpost.com Two weeks. It was only two weeks ago that I shared a missive regarding the death of the air kiss. In hindsight it now seems downright verbose to have spoken of gala guests elbow bumping each other in lieu of the double air kiss or handshake. Two weeks seems like a lifetime ago. Forget the elbow bump. We’re now supposed to practice social distancing. I may sometimes sound like a broken record regarding Notables’ tenets of society, charity and service. Yet that’s for which Notables has always stood and will always stand. I take the responsibility of sharing the stories and impact the charitable organizations highlighted within the pages of Notables very seriously. Yes, the pictures are pretty and that’s what draws readers to its pages. But Notables isn’t just about society. The people within its pages represent charity and service in the community. Season is did, done and over. That much we know. The funds raised at the events that appear within the pages of Notables every week impact families, parents, children, the homeless, the illiterate, the abused, the addicted, the hungry, men and women in uniform, veterans, the disabled, those facing health problems. Those seeking hope in their lives when the world appears hopeless. These organizations and charities still have a responsibility to help those they serve. For many, the cancelation of an event may not be felt today or tomorrow. But it will certainly be felt when it comes to next year’s budgets. Now, more than ever, we can’t forget charity and service in the community. Please continue to support the organizations to which you’ve shown your support in the past. Extend your own call to heart. And extend a thought to the countless service providers throughout the community who rely on the machine of charity in Palm Beach County for their livelihoods. Society might be taking a disco nap, but charity and service are wide awake and rallying for another turn on the dancefloor. — view on Instagram https://ift.tt/2U1Muis
