Preservation Virginia has included Chief Powhatan’s birthplace in Henrico County, the sacred site of WaHōnSeNaKah, on its 2026 list of the most endangered places.

The site — located on the north bank of the James River downstream from present Richmond — was also home to a plantation and enslaved community and it is recognized as the site of Richmond’s surrender at the end of the Civil War.

The Pamunkey Indian Tribe has purchased a historic King William County estate that figured prominently in watershed events during the colonial era.

The tribe recently closed on the sale of Windsor Shades, a 13-acre property along the Pamunkey River centered around a manor house dating to the mid-18th century.

Comparing life to a never-ending video game, West Point High School Principal Laurel Byrd welcomed the Class of 2026 to “Adulthood: Level One” and urged them to prepare themselves for their future goals, professionally and personally.

West Point High School graduated 71 members of the Class of 2026 on Friday. Collectively, the class received nearly $590,000 in scholarships and prizes.

New Kent’s Board of Supervisors has pledged an additional $200,000 to address the concerns of parents whose children face the loss of bus services between schools and daycares later this year.
