✨ SAVE THE DATE for StopGap’s PROMise Party! ✨

Our annual fundraiser returns for its 9th year - with a new name and theme. Join us on November 12th from 7-10 PM at CSI Spadina (192 Spadina Ave) in Toronto.

Access was prom-ised by 2025 - We’re still working (and dancing) to help make it happen.

In 2005, Ontario made a promise: that by January 1, 2025, our province would be fully accessible. That promise, written into the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), was a landmark commitment to removing barriers. But now, the graduation date has passed, and the province has fallen short.

PROMise Party is the theme of this year’s fundraiser: a radically joyful, inclusive reimagining of a classic rite of passage. It is also our response to a broken commitment. A community-powered night that says: “We will not wait quietly for inclusion. We will celebrate. We will gather. And we will help create the barrier-free Ontario that we were promised.”

🎟 Tickets now on sale at https://stopgappromiseparty.raiselysite.com/

Big thank you to our awesome volunteer Emma Scott Designs for the graphic!

Hey Tim Hortons! As a globally recognized brand and restaurant chain, we question why you chose 408 Roncesvalles Ave. and 1256 Dundas Street West as locations to operate out of.

Leaseholders big and small hold the keys to change, and which building any service is offered from matters. Avoiding inaccessible options sends a message to building owners to invest in accessible renovations.

Choosing a building that’s not accessible is simply not a good look. We find the 408 Roncesvalles Ave. location to be a particular fail with its stepped entryway combined with a code-compliant accessible washroom… *record scratch* 🤔

Here are some pics we took of newly renovated buildings while on an outing in the Dundas West, Roncesvalles, and Kensington Market neighbourhoods in Toronto.

These photos reflect a tragic reality of our societal lack of understanding about the importance and value of accessibility. We all need to work together in our roles as customers, building owners, designers, and builders to ensure that accessibility is prioritized when investing in a renovation.

A nominal increase to the overall project budget creates a positive impact for all parties connected to the property. From enabling future tenants to access a broader customer base to increasing the property value to the benefit of property owners, everyone wins. Simply, it’s just the right thing to do.

Hey Augusta Coffee Bar, Sounds Good, and Tim Hortons! What are your plans for remedying these issues?

Last night, the StopGap community came together in support of our collective goals of making this world a better place and modelled what that looks like.

A diverse array of people from different social and professional backgrounds listening, learning, leaning into our inherent curiosities, and gathering in celebration of StopGap’s awareness-raising work.

Thank you to everyone who joined in on the fun! 🧡 We extend special thanks to Northcrest Developments and The Mabin School for sponsoring the event, and Tranzac Club for hosting!

Hey Carbonic Coffee! Looks like you’ve got a new location in the works! That’s exciting! What would make it even more exciting is if you took this step out while undergoing your renovation.

We all need to work together in our roles as customers, business owners, building owners, designers, and builders to ensure that accessibility is prioritized when investing in a renovation or choosing a space to run a business out of.

Leaseholders, big and small, hold the keys to change. Avoiding inaccessible options sends a message to building owners to invest in accessible renovations. Choosing a building that’s not accessible and not doing anything about it is simply not a good look.

National AccessAbility Week
gives all of us an opportunity to celebrate, advocate for, and act toward creating disability inclusion! 🎉♿🙌

This week, you can join in on the celebrations and commit to contributing to the work that lies ahead.
➡️ If you’re in Toronto, come on out to happening all day on May 31st at David Pecaut Square!

Wherever you are, join our growing movement to transform how we design, build, and shape our communities by volunteering or making a donation. Your generosity allows us to:

🔴 Build, paint, and install custom ramps for individuals, small businesses, and community spaces
🟡 Deliver hands-on workshops and educational outreach to schools and corporate groups
🟢 Equip local volunteers with the tools to expand our Community Ramp Project all across Canada - most recently, to Ottawa and Montreal!
🔵 Advocate for a future where every space is designed with inclusion in mind, from the very beginning

Your volunteer or monetary contributions make our work possible, not just during National AccessAbility Week, but all year-round. Thank you for your continued support!

It was a beauty of a day on Friday as we hosted a Jane's Walk! 🌞

A big thank you to everyone who joined us, contributing to the talk by sharing their experiences and expertise or simply listening and learning. It was a treat to see both new and familiar faces in the crowd!

We hope you were left inspired to spread awareness about the importance of accessible AND inclusive spaces. We look forward to hosting more community events like this walk in the future! 👨‍🦽👩‍🦯🚶‍♀️
